PLOC, James Eamon (August 24, 1939) passed peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Grey Nuns Hospital. Jim leaves behind his wife of 56 years Gretel, and their three children: Cathy, Julie, and Michael. He is predeceased by his parents Irene and George Plock and his brother Joseph. As a Meteorologist for Environment Canada, he traveled throughout the country, settling in Edmonton to raise his family. Jim had a special fondness for his cabin that he built himself at Pigeon Lake and enjoyed many years there sailing, canoeing and nature watching. He also loved to ski, hike, bike, garden, and swim. Jim was a family man and a dedicated father. We will always remember Jim looking up – hands behind his back -watching the clouds and taking good care of us. Special thanks to Jim’s Homecare team of Susan, Anita, Leah and the staff at Allen Grey and Grey Nuns Palliative care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta. Dear Gretel and Family,
Thank you for inviting us to participate in the funeral prayers for Jim. Fr. Jim Corrigan’s (our former parish priest at St. Theresa’s) homily regarding faith, family and friends was a timely consolation. Michael’s words were a wonderful tribute to his kind, loving father. We know as time passes your tears will eventually “turn into dancing “ to cherish the many wonderful memories presented in your shared stories and the many slides you still have to view. With Love, hugs & prayers, Jim and Carla

25 years ago Jim met me shortly after retirement. We became good friends
car pooling together to SEESA and Milemium Place in Sherwood Park always
in friendly badminton competition. He was very good. We miss him.

My sincere sympathies to Gretel and family on the loss of a husband, father and grandfather. I knew Jim as a classmate and friend during Met. Officers Course 19. A respected colleague and a fine man. May he rest in peace.

While Jim and I never worked in the same forecast office we did work in co-located weather centres: the Alberta Weather Centre (Jim) and the Arctic Weather Centre (me). I always enjoyed our discussions about weather and about life. My condolences to Jim’s family and friends. Godspeed, Jim

Grandpa was a great father, brother, son, friend, husband, the list goes on. His life was so much bigger than just his own, although his humility may have prevented him from ever fully understanding this.

I can’t speak for everyone lucky enough to have had him in their life, but I can speak for myself. His sense of curiosity definitely inspired one in me. His dedication to his work pushes me when I fail to work hard. His calm and collectedness in nearly every situation, and his unthinking compassion serve as a model for the man I should be.

While this is a time of sadness, I hope that we can all celebrate Jim’s life, remember everything he did for us, and never let go of the gratitude we feel towards him. While Jim may no longer be with us, it is up to us to carry on his legacy, keep it true to him, and live the rest of our lives as he would have wanted us to.

Grandpa, rest in peace. You will be dearly missed.

My special memory of Jim is how one of his favourite songs was “The Shoemakers Shop” — he always wanted us to sing it when he came out to Mom and Dad’s. I still think of him when I sing it to my grandchildren!
Blessings to you and your family, Gretel, during this time of loss….

Jim’s calm steady hand as my supervisor in my early days were welcome when we were forecasting the storms. I will think of Jim as I look at the sky.

Jenny Maloney

On behalf of the Maloney family I would like to extend our condolences to Gretel and family. Jim visited his Uncle Vince and Aunt Jeanne often, and I know they enjoyed and appreciated the continued contact. We are sorry to hear of Jim’s later illnesses and pray for the repose of his soul and the joy of being reunited with his Saviour.

I worked many shifts with Jim at YEG and the Argyle centre. Plus enjoyed many hours of non-work activities such as badminton. Jim always impressed me…if he wanted to accomplish something, he studied then went about doing it. RIP.
