Edward Douglas Glansman
September 5th 1929 – September 21st 2021
Predeceased by his parents Jules and Martha Glansman. Edward will be sadly missed by his wife of 67 years Bernardine Glansman (nee Simonson). They were better together and are ‘always and forever’.
Loved by 2 daughters Arlene (Terry) Cairns and Laureen Strekies.
Also, by his 5 grandchildren Nolan (Kathleen) Cairns, Leslie Cairns, Michelle (Josh) Strekies, April Strekies, Tara (Sanjay) Strekies as well as 6 great grandchildren Jace, Holden, Oliver, Hannah, Rowan and Sadie.
He will also be remembered by his sister-in-law Helen Webb (nee Simonson) many nieces and nephews and relatives in both Canada and Europe.
Thank you to the many friends who made his time memorable, especially his life long buddy Ron Buckell who he loved to go fishing with and travel the world. Ed was a kind man who always had a smile. His favorite things were gladiolas, pineapple, coffee, apple fritters, Johnny Cash music and of course happy hour with a dark rum and coke.
He worked for 34 years for the Edmonton water department and was retired for 37 years. A full and beautiful life.
Respecting his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A private gathering at Bardo Cemetery near Kingman, Alberta will take place in the future.
Thank you to the staff of the Strathcona County Hospital the Misericordia Hospital, the Capital Care Angus Magoogan Wing, the Sherwood Care Center, the U of A Hospital and the various caring EMS staff.
Your professionalism and kindness in these unbelievable times was so appreciated.
Dear Arlene and Laurie – We’re so very sorry for the loss of your dear Father. Our parents were such great friends, and enjoyed each other’s company so much. My Mom sends a big hug to Deena. I do know that none of this is easy and my heart goes out to you and your families. Thinking of you,

Please accept my belated personal condolences to the family of Ed Glansman. Ed was my boss at Edmonton Water and I have many memorable moments over the years in my dealings with Ed. He hired me in 1971 and I still remember the interview, I later became the Shop Steward for the outside workers there, and we both grew in our expanded roles. I had great respect for him both as a manager and a person. Rest in peace Ed!

So sad to hear of Mr. Glansman’s passing. Fond memories of camping trips to Jasper, Kelowna, and Bates Beach fishing for salmon as well as adventures to Hawaii and Europe! I will always remember his laughter and his energy for experiencing life. He was the only man who could get my dad up at 4 am to go fishing! Our condolences to the entire family; our thoughts are with you.
Dear Arlene, Laurie and families – I wish I could give you a big hug during these tough times. I have the fondest memories of your dad who was always a pleasure to be around.
Many of my memories go back to when he would take me duck hunting. He had the reflexes of a cat as I can remember once when a duck came in so quick that I hardly realized it was there and somehow Uncle Ed downed that duck. Another time hunting geese, the flock almost landed on us (including Uncle Chuck) and everyone blasted away. I know I missed everything in all the excitement but dear Uncle Ed again showed the gentleman he was as he told me, “I think you got that one” – and I know he shot both the geese that fell in that direction.
I will miss your dad’s big smile and genuine caring. And he will always have a special place in my heart as one of my dear uncles.
