Myron (Marian) Joseph Iskierski
Sept 6, 1958 – April 27, 2022
It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Myron at the age of 63 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Myron had a way to make you smile… a joke, a funny rhyme or by just being himself… loud and gregarious without a filter and a contagious laugh that could be heard for miles…that was Myron.
Born in Winnipeg, he was an Elmwood boy that went to St. John’s High School following many of his peers from his grade school (Holy Ghost Elementary School). It was there he learned how to work hard and play much, much harder. Myron often shared his memories (or partial memories) of this period which included his escapades at the local watering hole(s) in the North End or at the family cottage in Grand Beach.
Although Myron loved all sports, lacrosse was the one he excelled at most. He played it with passion and stayed in touch with many of his teammates throughout the years. He was always entertaining to watch (when he wasn’t in the penalty box). He was especially proud of the time his team represented Manitoba at the 1977 Canada Games in St. John’s Newfoundland. He kept much of the memorabilia from that trip to boast about when people came to visit.
Myron was very dedicated to his career at Shell and in his early 20’s he decided to take a transfer to Edmonton where he worked for 30 years before retiring at the ripe old age of 53. He was proud of his accomplishments there, as well as the lifelong friends that he continued to meet with long after his last shift at the Scotsford Oil Refinery.
Since retiring, Myron regularly called his Mom and siblings to find out or spread the latest gossip about the Iskierski clan or talk about his favourite pastime… EVERY sport known to mankind. Through these conversations, we all became much closer and will always cherish learning about the kind and generous nature behind the big burly man.
Myron was predeceased by his father Joseph, and is survived by his mother Frances (Doug), his sister Theresa (Robert), three brothers: James (Elaine), Edward (Jennifer), Andrew and many adoring nephews and nieces: Michael, Matthew (Brittany), Sean, Kevin (Jane), Zachary (Eleni), Nicole, Haley (Alec) and Alyssa.
We love you Myron and know you are with Dad (aka Tata) sharing the latest Iskierski clan gossip and looking forward to the next sports game not yet played…
Rest in Peace Myron

Greetings,
A friend informed me that Myron has passed on. I met Myron back in the 60s when I enrolled at Holy Ghost School in Winnipeg. I attended Holy Ghost with Myron from grade 5 to grade 9. We use to play a lot of hockey on the Holy Ghost outdoor rink and shoot some hoops in my yard on Magnus Ave. ,along with our pal Ted Nanowski. I also remember attending the CYC dances at the Holy Ghost Hall on Fridays, and golfing at Kildonan Golf Course. But most of all, I remember Myron’s big laugh and beaming smile. After we graduated grade nine and moved on to St. John’s High, I never saw much of Myron. However, when I was informed of his passing these nice memories woke up. Rest In Peace Myron. I am glad to have known you.
Every successful team needs “character players”- not the team super star, just a hard working guy who loved to play lacrosse. That was Myron Iskierski. Myron could give a check, take a check, snag a loose ball- all with a smile on his face. He enjoyed his individual successes, steady defensive play with a goal every once in while, but what he really revelled in was the team success and knowing he contributed to it in any way he could. Playing with the Kelvin Terriers in the 1970’s, Myron had his share of success, winning numerous provincial championships.
Myron was the kind of guy you may not notice during a game, but you would immediately knew when he was not there. The lacrosse community will certainly miss him.

Our deepest condolences. Thinking of all of you.
My heart goes out to you Aunty Frances and your beautiful family. May your grief be eased by Myron’s love for you all. All is well with him.
My friend, you left us all too early! Too suddenly! We were friends for many years and did many things together. I remember the NFL games, the vacations to Cancun, and the Caribbean cruise. All those Sunday lunches at the Crown and lots of other occasions. I will miss talking sports with you and that hearty laugh of yours. I’m sure that you are with your father and other relatives, just catching up! You will be missed!
My deepest condolences to the Family. We grew up together on Noble Ave, hung out at Kelvin Community Club playing all types of sports. Went to Red River together and had a lot of parties. Had a few dinner parties with Myron in Edmonton. Myron always had a smile on his face. Rest In Peace my friend. Harry and Marilyn Nickel
