Barry Raymond Blumenschein, 61, passed away unexpectedly on November 23rd, 2023. Even though he was taken away from this world too soon, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all of his family and friends.
Barry was born May 26th, 1962 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Charlene Harvey, along with his brother Brian Blumenschein. Their family moved to Edmonton, where they met Bob and Tina Blumenschein, and their two families were completed with Lorianne.
Barry is survived by his beautiful loving wife of 35 years, Terrey, and their children Raymond (Haley), Cassandra (Nathan), Jennifer (Landon), Brandon, and their fur baby Kiwi.
Barry met the love of his life, Terrey, while working at Levi Strauss in Brandtford, Ontario. They married on November 26th, 1988 in Burford, Ontario. After their honeymoon to Niagara Falls, they moved to Sherwood Park, where they lived in their family home for 35 years. It was a busy home full of love, laughter, and many great memories.
Barry enjoyed his career as a Chief Power Engineer for 32 years at Alsco until his recent retirement. He was well loved by all of his coworkers and was a highly respected member of his work family.
Barry was known for his love of marathons and ran over 30 half marathons all across North America. His love of running took him and Terrey on numerous memorable vacations. Barry could always be counted on to call up for a great conversation, to watch an Oilers game with, or just to crack a cold one with and share some laughs.
The service for Barry will be an intimate gathering as per his request. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada 1200-2300 Yonge St, Box 2414 Toronto, ON M4P1E4, in memory of Barry Blumenschein.
So sad to hear of Barry’s passing, he was a good friend of mine when we worked at GWG and Levi Strauss. Please accept my condolences Terry and family
Dear Terrey Blumenschein and family, we are so sorry for your loss. Praying for your strength and resilience…
Barry was a part of Alsco Edmonton family for over 30 years. During his tenure, not only he managed multiple large-scale engineering projects, he also effectively led the team of Engineering and Maintenance for many years. As a Chief Engineer, he was very successful in his role and helped making this branch bigger and better place. He was talented, sincere, always eager to help. During his time at Alsco, he profoundly impacted many lives. His unexpected and sudden passing away has left us all in pain and shock.
It is our honor to pay tribute to Barry Blumenschein – to a life well lived, who left this world for a better place. Goodbye Chief… till we meet again!
Lisa and I were very saddened to learn that our cousin Barry has passed away. We can ‘t imagine what Terrey and her family are going through but I want them to know our hearts and payers are with you. Barry was a great person. He and Brain came into our lives not too long ago and I felt that I have known them all my life. Now he is not with us anymore. It just doesn’t seem fair. I was just texting him and Brain during the Grey Cup game only to learn of his passing a few days later. Last thing I said to him was ” Take care Barry talk to you soon” Well cousin rest in peace we will miss you.
