Timothy Gerard Murphy June 9, 1955 – October 11, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that Cynthia and Austin announce the passing of their beloved husband and father. Tim was diagnosed with Metastatic cancer in 2021, and decided from that moment on that he would not give up and live life to the fullest. He met each day with gratitude and grace, continuing to exercise, play golf and travel with his family.
Tim served his country for 22 years, then went on to work for Personal Support Programs (DND) for an additional 17 years. Tim’s legacy is the kindness and compassion he demonstrated to all those he came in contact with.
Tim leaves to mourn his wife of 35 years Cynthia and Son Austin. Brothers, Robert (Ruby), Paul (Sandra), Chris (Joan), and Hubert (Karen) and sister-in law Barbara. Predeceased by his father Hubert and his Mother Mary, Brother Michael and sister Sharon. As well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Cynthia and Austin would like to thank EMS, Morinville palliative home care , and Mel Miller hospice for the great care and compassion they showed Tim during his last month of life. Truly there are angels amongst us. Special thanks to my sister Pat and brother-in-law Chris who came to support us, in keeping Tim at home for as long as we could, it meant the world to Austin and me. We would also like to thank Kathie Powell and Pastor Jesse, your support was appreciated.
To honor Tim please consider donating to Edmonton humane society, or Mustard seed.
A celebration of life will take place April 2025, date to be announced to friends and family.
Tim you, Cynthia and Austin touched my heart with kindness and love.
You have left a mark on each one of us who had the honour to get to know you. I will keep your light shining in my heart and mind. You shared your wisdom, your heart and your love for your family and your sense of fun came through. Your energy lives on in each person whose life you touched.
May Tim soar with the angels; spreading his love and beautiful smile to everyone he is reunited with on the other side. I can’t find adequate words to express on your loss. I will continue to pray for you as you travel this world without your dear husband and father. Love Rosalind and George.
My Dearest Cynthia -my heartfelt sympathy to you and family. The short time that I had known Tim he showed such kindness and compassion and always that big smile to all that knew him. I will miss seeing him on the Trail but will keep on “walking” for him. God Bless
I’m so sad to read this. Tim was an amazing human. He will be forever missed.
I am so sorry for your loss
Tim and I worked together in Ottawa in 1985 and for years with CISM
Tim was athletic and gifted but more importantly he was a kind and caring friend
Sincere condolences to the family on behalf of Mary and Doug Cook.
I was a coach for CISM cross-country, and a member of the PE&R branch as well as being a fellow runner. Tim will certainly be missed. Please let me know date and time of the Celebration of Life – I will try to attend.
We are so sorry to hear about Tim’s passing.
I loved this guy!
I first met Tim in 1985 at CF Running Nationals. I was instantly in awe of him, as he finished way beyond my line of vision. What an athlete!!
We travelled the world a few times. His sense of humour always had me in stitches.
I was always amazed by his toughness. One time we did a 10-miler in Winnipeg in minus 30C. I had my layers, full wool head-mask, extra sock (don’t ask), etc etc. Murph seemed wildly underdressed. It worried me. “Aren’t you too cold?” I asked every mile? “Shuuuut uuup!” was the final response.
I borrowed this story from somewhere and adapted the names:
Me, Murph and Clou are together with 50m left in a race. But there is a brick wall at the finish. One of us stops and files a protest. Another gets near the wall then veers left, missing it. A third sprints furiously and hits the wall. Everyone gathers around him as he lays semi-conscious, with blood everywhere. “You hit the wall” exclaims someone. “What wall?” he asks?
Anybody who knew Murph knows who he is in that story!
But he was was such a gentle, good-hearted guy beneath the tough exterior. It drove me insane that he could be the perfect platonic friend to the girl(s) that I was crazy about and too afraid to really speak to. We had many laughs about this!! I know he put in a good word for me, but, alas….
Well, Murph…thanks for all the fun times. And thanks for showing me what a true athlete was made of. I’m still blown away, Dude!!
My sincere condolences to Tim’s family, relatives, and close friends! Tim was a wonderful running coach, mentor, and friend! In order for Tim to coach the CAF-CISM Running Team, he needed to get his Level 3 Coaching and I needed him to teach me the in and outs of competitive running in the military so Tim took me under his wing! As I look back, Tim taught me more than just being a faster, stronger runner…he taught me how to handle the daily pressures of serving in the military and grow into a better and stronger person! I will always cherish the memories and the “tools of life” that Tim gifted me while he coached me! Thoughts and prayers goes out to all of those whom are going through this difficult time…
Cynthia and Austin, our hearts go out to both of you and we wish you comfort and strength during this extremely difficult time. Tim was an amazing person to be around and I was very fortunate to meet up with him almost 40 years ago doing what we both loved doing. He and I shared so many laughs during our time in the PERI trade. Memories that always make me smile and that I will cherish forever.
I was very happy when we were both able to meet up with you and Tim 3 years ago and that both of you were able to meet my wife. It was nice to once again share more laughs and stories.
You will always be remembered as a kind, compassionate and caring man.
Rest easy Tim.
I work with Tim from 1992-2001 in Edmonton. Great friend and gentle soul.My deepest sympathies to the family.
Tim, one of a kind! A true gem, a person who will live on through those he has come in contact with. I’m so so sorry for your loss Cynthia and Austin, I am thinking of you both during this time of grieving. Take good care and know that Tim is all around you.

The world is a much sadder place without him. Condolences. Rest in Peace my friend….you are out of pain now and with family that have passed before you.

Cynthia we are going to miss Tim and me especially as I thought of Tim as a younger brother. Tim and I were in contact since 1980 when we first moved to Ottawa and we spent time together until we relocated to Toronto, I kept in touch with Tim through Chris in his last moments sending my love and prayers. God will welcome him with open arms.
Our Deepest heartfelt condolences to Cynthia, Austin, and the rest of Tims family.
I met Tim while serving in Shearwater, and we reconnected in Edmonton. After retiring we became social friends. It was a privilege to get to know Tim, over the retirement years. Tim will be greatly missed, but remembered fondly.

My deepest condolences to family, friends and our peers! I first met Tim in Ottawa, I was posted to CFB Ottawa and eventually served at the Rockcliffe gym, I think Tim was either at NDHQ or maybe Uplands gym. We were both runners and he was absolutely mind boggling for me with his unique training style. Tim, thank you for the laughs we had and the races we did, plus your unusual diet! Rest in peace and when I look at those old green and white gym shoes, I will think of you!
To the family of the late Tim Murphy, sending our condolences to you. I met Tim while he was visiting Chris in Western Bay NL, a very friendly and nice person . Sorry for your loss Chris.
John and Bonnie Crummey .
My thoughts are with you Cynthia, my condolences to you and Austin I worked with Tim back in Shearwater, and knew him from multitudes of regional’s. Tim was a great man and fabulous person and mentor, I will always remember back in Shearwater the day he got the plastic car and I told him that their was a hole in the side, but he didn’t acknowledged it until I took out and showed him, he was so mad at the car salesman for telling him that this new car would survive without a scratch or dents… then Tim being Tim he shrugged his shoulders and we laughed for the rest of the day.
Tim will always be in my heart, he was one of a kind and boy could he run…
Love Tim, hope you brought new running shoes with you as the sky’s are unlimited in running places, gone he is, never forgotten he will always be
Cynthia, Austin and family We only met my first Cousin Tim a few years ago having not seen him since we were both in our teens. We reached out to each other and Tim came for a visit. There was an immediate connection and I felt sorry we hadn’t connected earlier! My son was a swimmer for the U of C and no doubt Austin would have swam against him in heats. I admire Tim so much for his grit and Fred and I wish you ,Cynthia ,and family some peace in knowing he is in a better place!
Tim’s heart and commitment meant a lot to the Morinville community and will be missed. He was a good friend and confident. RIP my friend and God bless.
Dear Chris, Paul and family,
Sending deepest condolences to you and your family at this very difficult time. It’s been a long time since I saw Tim in Chapel Arm. I remember your mom and dad so very well. Rest in peace, Tim. Such a loss of a kind human who made this world a better place. He is with God and the angels and we will meet again.Deepest condolences to Cynthia and Austin and all the families.
Tim’s heart touched many many people, I only knew Tim for about 4 to 5 months but his honest, genuine & caring nature affected many in Morinville and for sure throughout St. Albert and Castledowns areas.
