We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Stanley Joseph Perka on November 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 12, 1944, in Provost, AB, Stan grew up on the family farm just a couple of hours away near Round Hill, Alberta. Stan married the love of his life, Irene in 1967. Stan and Irene settled in Sherwood Park in 1970, where they built a life filled with love, family, and lasting friendships. Stan valued spending time with loved ones, whether it was socializing, fishing, camping, or sharing in everyday moments. He was also an incredibly gifted handyman, ready to build or fix anything that needed attention, and pass along his knowledge and skills to others. His faith was central to his life, and for over 50 years, he was a devoted parishioner at OLPH Church, where he served as an usher during most Sunday Masses.
Stan is the first of nine siblings to pass away and was predeceased by his parents, Stanley Sr. and Rose, who have welcomed him into his eternal home in Heaven. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Irene, their three children Shane (Leah-Ann), Cindy (John), and Marc (Amanda), and his cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Jordan, Riley, Kasey, Katie, Josh, and Emmalee.
Stan’s unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and community has left a lasting impact. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered, forever in our hearts and memories.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 25, at 10:30 a.m. at OLPH Church in Sherwood Park, followed by a luncheon and time for fellowship. Stan always found joy in gathering with family and friends, and we encourage all to take time for those connections, just as he did.
In his final days, Stan received wonderful compassionate care from the staff at the Roozen Family Hospice Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to Pilgrims Hospice at pilgrimshospice.com
Our hearts are saddened to hear of Stan passing. Please accept our most sincere condolences. I have many warm memories of Stan and his siblings as I rode the same Round Hill school bus and were parishioners at St. Stanilaus for many yrs. I have the most fond memories nearing Christmas season as the parish choir sang Carols lead by Stan and his sisters with others at my parents home. He was part of a group to enlighten my faith. May peace be with Stan and your families.
Irene, Shane, Cindy, Marc & families,
I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Stan. Your family was such a big part of my life growing up with Marc. I have so many fond memories of Stan. Especially sitting in the front of the motorhome with him, driving in the dark, on our way to Quadra Island.
Thinking of you and your families.
