In Loving Memory of Linda Irene Poulsen
February 15, 1942 – February 18, 2025
Linda Irene Poulsen passed away at the age of 83, surrounded by family and friends.
She recently moved from Drayton Valley back to Sherwood Park with her beloved partner of 40 years, Bruce McKinney, to be closer to family.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Anna Lehto, her sister Lisa, and her only son, Michael Poulsen.
She is survived by her loving partner, Bruce McKinney; her stepson, Michael McKinney (Michele), whom she considered a second son; and her stepdaughter, Leslie (Arnie) Ziganash. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Calvin (Katie), Amber, Garret, and Brett (Emily), as well as her great-grandchildren, Maddi, Evie, Max, and Remington. Linda will be dearly missed by her close friends Carla, Don, and Trent. She is also survived by her nieces, Veronica and Carol, and her nephew, Gary. Linda’s friendships were a source of great joy, including those she made at her final residence in Sherwood Park and within the Drayton Valley Art Club.
Born in Vancouver, B.C., Linda was raised on a small poultry farm. From an early age, she was drawn to art, finding inspiration in the gardens, orchards, and animals around her. In high school, she majored in Fine Arts, excelling in her studies and participating in several travelling group exhibits.
Linda married her first husband and, in 1963, welcomed her son, Michael. His developmental challenges led her to become a dedicated advocate for individuals with disabilities. She set aside her artistic pursuits to focus on his care and well-being.
In 1997, after ensuring Michael was settled in a supervised home and retiring from her bookkeeping career at Coop Press, Linda finally had the freedom to return to her artistic passion. She took various workshops to refine her skills, specializing in water colour florals and graphite portraits. She was an active member of the Drayton Valley art community, Continuing Adult Education, and took on commissioned work. Her artwork is displayed in private collections across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and the Yukon.
Beyond her love of painting, Linda enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal service will be held. At a later date a private Celebration of Life will take place in her honour. Please raise a glass of wine in her memory.
