With love and sadness we announce the passing of Marius Szachta on May 10th, 2025 at the age of 90. He was surrounded by family in his final moments and leaves behind a life rich in love, wisdom and dedication.

Born Saint Lys, France on April 8th, 1935, Marius was the second of three children to parents Gertrude and Etienne. From an early age he had a curious wonder of the world around him. He would often share stories of his childhood and mischief making. He studied as an engineer, travelled and worked through Europe and North Africa as part of his military service. As he grew, his passion for knowledge would take him around the world, meeting his loving wife Arlette along the way.

In 1968, he moved to Canada with his wife and three young daughters in tow. Marius spent four decades working in the Oil and Gas sector of Alberta (Destiny Resources and Calgary Drilling LTD.), designing and building Heli-portable drilling rigs.

He was proud to call Canada his home and shared with his family a great interest in the outdoors. He would often take his family on trips through Canada exploring National Parks, nature preserves and various historical landmarks. He had a great many skills and talents which he shared with his children and grandchildren such as hunting, fishing, photography, chess, gardening, and mechanics.

Marius is survived by, his sister, Irene, Niece Isabel and Nephew Nicholas, Daughters Corinne, Muriel, Janick, Sophie, Juliette and Son Daniel; Grandchildren, Angela, Natasha, Amanda, Katie, Sienna, Hannah, Arthur; Great Grandchildren, Annika, Tucker, Madeline and Paige.

A private family funeral was held to honour Marius’ life on May 18, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations to Stars Air Ambulance would be appreciated. What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.
