Loretta (Dugie) Underhill

It is with great sadness that Loretta Underhill passed away at the U of A Hospital on Sunday August 31st. Loretta was born in 1944 in Southern Ohio, but lived most of her life in Canada. She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband Reg Underhill of 35 years,
– Son Douglas Mudge (Kim), grandchildren Jessica (Alex), Bronson and great grandchildren Leia & Claire.
– Daughter, Loretta/Jody Bouchard (Rick), grandchildren Dirk &Skye (Jordan), great grandchildren Fynn, Lily & Victoria
– Son Bill Underhill (Marta), grandchildren Curtis (Darcie), Tyson (Dayna), great grandchildren Mason, Spencer & Huxley
– Daughter Donna Threlkeld (Stuart), grandchildren Amy, Chelsea (Thomas), great grandchildren Seth, Elijah, Adelaide, Isaiah and Slone

Loretta was the youngest of three sisters, she is predeceased by her Father, Leroy Myers/Herman Conard and her Mother Ann Bishop/Myers/Conard, her sister Margaret (Muggs) and sister Ernestine (Dimpi), Yes the sisters were nicknamed Muggs, Dimpi and Dugie!
Loretta had many highs and lows in her life and touched many lives during her time here. She especially loved music & dancing, Although tragically disabled in 1972 she went on to be an inspiration to new amputees by providing advice and sharing her personal experiences. She participated at the ACT Centre in North Edmonton and went on to compete in the Special Olympics in shotput, discus, javelin and table tennis and brought home some medals. She became a disabled downhill ski instructor at Rabbit Hill teaching many students to enjoy the sport. She was a “sharp shooter” at the gun range, also a competitor of shuffleboard with numerous awards. She went on to upgrade her education, obtain Canadian Citizenship and had a 14 year career as a public servant with the Government of Canada. She was a member of the Mainstreet Cruiser’s car club in Edmonton for 10 years. She spent 13 beautiful years on Vancouver Island in the retirement community of Arbutus Ridge, Cobble Hill. Loretta and Reg moved back to Edmonton in June of 2024 to be closer to friends and family during her declining health years.
