Debra made such an impact on everyone in the office with her small gestures of kindness and thoughtfulness. When I was new-ish to the office, Deb stopped by my desk one day to give me a lanyard (from the Hard Rock Cafe) that looked like a guitar strap with skulls on it just because she saw it and thought of me. I hadn’t thought I had made much of an impression on anyone, but Debra’s kind gesture made me feel very seen and significant.

Everyone who I’ve told the story to agrees that that was just the kind of person she was, kind, generous and just a lovely soul.

I am deeply sorry for your loss, but I thought you would enjoy a tiny snapshot of the kindness Debra brought to the people around her.

Debs, as I called her, was my dearest friend growing up and most of my memories of that time are wrapped in our days together. We had so much fun. Growing up in the 70s was the best time. We attended our first concert together, April Wine. I slept at the Schmidt’s more times that I can count. We hitchhiked, learned how to put on makeup, spent hours listening to Janis Joplin on the hifi and got our first jobs together. So many laughs and adventures. Though we drifted apart, I’ve always kept her in my heart and always will. My deepest condolences to her children and to all of the Schmidt siblings.
