Dr. Gordon Cuff

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Gordon’s passing on March 9th, 2026. Gord was a determined man who was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He was born in Portage La Prairie, spending his formative years there before moving to Brandon, Red Deer and, ultimately, settling in Edmonton.

He was a tremendous, if not slight, athlete often out performing those twice his size. He was equally determined in establishing a good life for him and his family. He completed his graduate and PhD studies, all the while caring and providing for his growing family with his wife, Lorraine. He took great pride in his work, progressing all the way up to his role at Alberta Deputy Public Guardian. He played an integral part in establishing significant legislation during this time which empowered Clients with the support necessary to optimize their autonomy. These were also values Gord continued to hold, personally, throughout his life.

Once retired in 2010, he was able to focus on those things most important to him; family, fishing, golfing, travel and Folk Fest. In addition to enjoying music, he was a gifted singer and guitar player, having taught himself to play at a young age. The family was (almost always) delighted to wake up to him playing one of his favorite folk songs.

Gord was an independent spirit who maintained this spirit until the end. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine; children, Nelson (Shannon), Jodie (Monte); and grandchildren Anna and Grace.
