Subhash Chander Sikka, beloved father, brother, uncle, friend and mentor, passed away in hospital on Thursday, March 26th, at the age of 87. He had faced significant health challenges in recent years, successfully overcoming cancer, battling chronic kidney disease and the onset of dementia, the latter two of which took his life.

Subhash was born in Punjab, India, to a loving Hindu family. He immigrated to Canada in 1964, where he furthered his education at the University of Waterloo, earning his P.Eng., and embarking on a 45+ year career in engineering, consulting, and project management. He was known for his professional dedication, tireless work ethic, and lifelong commitment to volunteering with many charitable organizations, namely Habitat for Humanity.

Subhash’s life was anchored by his love for his family. He was deeply devoted to his two children and remained deeply connected throughout the years to his extended family in India. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, his kind and sensitive heart, and gentle soul. He cultivated many lasting friendships that spanned decades and mentored many young engineers who went on to have long, successful careers. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him best.

He is survived by his daughter Sabina (Rob), his son Naveen, his sisters Kanta, Ashu, and Lata, his brother Arun, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Savitri, his father Siri Ram, and his brother Kamlesh.

In lieu of a service, his family will be having a private ‘Celebration of Life’ in his honour.

Donations in his memory can be made to Habitat for Humanity and/or the Hindu Society of Alberta.
