George Michael Barron
1945 – 2026
Passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, after a brief illness, George Michael Barron in his 81st year.
George was predeceased by his mother, Mary Barron, his uncle, Edward Barron (Marg) and his aunt Sheila Squires (William), along with other members of the Squires and Barron family. He was also predeceased by David and Josephine (nee Squires) Shubert, with whom he shared many special years in Spruce Grove, Alberta.
Leaving to mourn are his cousins Patricia Tizzard, Bernadette Williams, Ted Barron, and Bernadette Barron, along with a wide circle of extended family and friends across both Alberta and Newfoundland.
A special thank you is extended to his dear friends, Bev and Peter Shiel, who supported George until the very end. Your care and devotion during his final months was a beautiful act of kindness and a true testament that family can come from anywhere.
The family also wishes to express deep gratitude to the care team at Rivercrest Care Centre in Fort Saskatchewan for ensuring George was comfortable and cared for throughout his stay.
George was a man with a fascinating mind and a lifelong thirst for knowledge. No matter the topic, George was ready to share his most outrageous and captivating theories on everything from current politics to the mysteries of Ancient Rome. His intellectual curiosity was a hallmark of his character, and we hope he has now found the answers to all of life’s questions.
In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will occur at a later date in Newfoundland, where he will return home to rest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA in memory of George’s great love for cats.
Forever in our hearts
Oh my goodness….rest in peace sweet Georgie. George was such an interesting man, with such a complex mind. He would read encyclopedias for entertainment and had a “Sheldon” (Big Bang) kind of memory, right until the end. What wasn’t mentioned in this beautiful obituary, was the dedication from Kristina Farrell, who is George’s cousins daughter. Every Sunday without fail, while George was in hospice, Kristina and George would have a Sunday lunch date, that he looked so forward to. For Peter and I, it was such an honor to walk this sweet soul home. Until we meet with you again Georgie, be free of all your pain and enjoy all your eternal friends and family.
