Bernice was born in Parkbeg, SK, where she grew up on a farm. She attended a one roomed school and transportation was by horse, when available. When not available, walking was the only way to get to and from school. Apparently uphill both ways.
Bernice moved to Alberta and while working at Gainers Meat Packing she met Rusty. They were married and purchased a house in 1960. Many weekends were spent camping and summer holidays in BC. As the children grew Bernice as well as being a mother and a home-maker, helped with the home-based business Jiffy Maid and Butler Service. Bernice loved to work in her flower beds, tend to the garden and enjoyed canning. Bernice liked cooking and baking for friends and family, especially when her brother Don and sister Vernette and families would gather around her “special elongated ” table.
In 1976, Bernice had to to support herself and her three youngest children when Rusty left. Bernice successfully obtained training in accounting. Bernice was a very strong, resourceful and independent person. She worked at Saunders Distributing and WW Arcade. Throughout the years, Sid became very special to her. She loved dancing and also joined the Legion. For many years she was coordinator of her Legion’s Over the 60 Club. Bernice was a people person, and would converse with anyone, anytime. She went to Hawaii, Vegas a few times with Audrey and to Whitehorse. Her nephew Terry, on numerous occasions, picked up his Aunt and took her out for the day. Special times sharing fun, laughter, food and maybe a slot machine.
Bernice loved all her family and was loved by all her family. She will be deeply missed by all.
Cremation has taken place and a private immediate family ceremony will take place at a later date.
In Bernice’s memory, the family invites you to share a cup of coffee or lunch with friends or family, tell a few stories, and share memories of times filled with
love and laughter as you remember her.
