It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lionel Romeo Joseph Dubuc, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Lionel departed from this world on March 2nd, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Lionel is survived by the love of his life Phyllis Dubuc, his children Jerry Dubuc (Michelle Yurko) and Tammy (Hugh) Luck. He was a cherished grandfather to Skylar Reder-Dubuc (Darby Dwernychuk) and Madison Dubuc-Marchand (Derian Vaillant). His love extended to his bonus grandchildren Alyssa and Brooklyn Raymond. 

Lionel’s true legacy lies in the warmth of his personality. He was a kind man who never judged and always enjoyed making people laugh. His drive and motivation came from his work in the oil field for over 60 years. Lionel’s passions included fishing and playing cards. He enjoyed being away at the lake surrounded by loved ones. Lionel’s passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be deeply missed by anyone who had the privilege to know him. 

A memorial service to celebrate Lionel’s life with be held on Saturday, June 1st 2024 at Sandholm Community Hall of Leduc. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Nadia Markley (nee Onishenko) on March 31st, 2024. At 97 years old she passed peacefully at the Misericordia Hospital.

Born in Canora, Saskatchewan she was one of the first groups of students to complete a BSc of Nursing in the newly formed program. She spent her life nurturing through her role as a mother and her career as a nurse. She was always there for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and caring for them. She was an avid gardener who took pride in her begonias. She sewed many of her own clothes and those of her children and grandchildren. Nadia baked countless pies and her toffee recipe was second to none.

She is survived by her children: Maureen McConaghy (Dennis), David Markley, Robert Markley, Patrick Markley; Janet Markley, Nancy Markley (Blaine), Paul Markley, and James Markley. As well as ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She is pre-deceased by her parents Motia and Evon Sergeiavich Onishenko, her two sisters Ruby Tittemore and Sonia Scurfield and brother Sergius Onishenko. She is also pre-deceased by her husband Lyall Francis Markley and their two children Thomas Bruce Markley and John Joseph Markley. As well as her grandson Michael Allen Morrill.

Thanks to the Home Care Givers from Bayshore Health Care and Alberta Health Services, Misericordia Hospital and Dr. Robert Turner for their professional and compassionate care.

A celebration of Nadia Markley’s life will be held Friday April 19th from 11 am – 2 pm. at the Royal Glenora Club, 1160 River Valley Rd. NW, Edmonton.

Brian Patrick Mac Neil

May 25 1955 – March 26 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our brother, uncle and dear friend, Brian Patrick Mac Neil age 68 at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta, while listening to his favorite tunes by Jimmy Buffett. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Allan and Catherine(Brown) Mac Neil.

Brian graduated from Sydney Mines High School before leaving to work in Halifax and Toronto. He then headed west to Edmonton where he lived for the past forty seven years. He was a long time employee at EMCO, where he met many close friends and forged strong relationships over the years. He enjoyed travelling, golfing, and his Friday Night Happy Hour at “The Cabin”. Brian enjoyed any opportunity he had to return home to visit family and friends. He was overjoyed to spend time with family and friends anytime they would visit Edmonton.

He was generous to his nieces and nephews and later to his grand nieces and nephews. They all liked to see Uncle Brian coming with his bags of presents and he always asked about them when he called home.

Brian is survived by his brother Hughie(Michelle) Mill Creek, David (Cindy) Sydney Mines, and Blake, Edmonton, Alberta. He is also survived by his sister, Maria(Gerry) Walsh Sydney Mines and sister in-law Marilyn Mac Neil (Pt Edward). He will be missed by all his nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, neighbors and golfing buddies.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, physical therapists in the Intensive Care Unit as well as Unit 33 at The Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. A very special thank you to Brian’s best friend of forty seven years Gary Stobbart who was by Brian’s side for the last four months, visiting Brian and always keeping us informed about Brian’s progress and making it possible for us to have video chats with Brian. ( We Don’t know what we would have done without you Gary.)

Brian was predeceased by both his maternal and paternal grandparents, James and Lavinia Brown and Hugh and Elizabeth Mac Neil. Brian was also predeceased by his brother Allan.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

We will miss hearing your quiet and dry sense of humor! R.I.P. Brian.

Our lovely Mom, Jennifer, passed away on the morning of April 2, 2024, with family at her side after a brave battle with cancer. Mom will be missed by her daughters, Jodie Allen and Dawn Lukye, as well as her grandchildren Jenna, Justin, Kayla, Dustin, Bradley and Liam and great grandchildren Jaden, Jaxon, Daidrie and Maya, and her sister, Patricia Sorsdahl. Jennifer was predeceased by her daughter, Janet Palframan, her sister, Lorna Brick, her infant brother, Ian, and her parents, Rodney and Margaret. Mom was very proud to have been born and raised an Air Force Brat and had a special bond with her lifelong friends and fellow Brats who gave her and her family plenty of support and love during this difficult time. Mom was also very proud of her career with Edmonton Telephones, later TELUS, and had very fond memories of her colleagues and friends at work. In lieu of other tributes, please be intentionally kind and loving to someone today. At Mom’s request there will be no service.

Mieczyslaw O. Kulesza, M.D. MRCOG, FRCOG, FRCS(C) fondly known as Dr. Mike, was the only child born to Dr Wlodzimierz and Jolanta Kulesza on Oct 10 1940 in Warsaw Poland. He died peacefully on March 29, 2024 with his wife Susan and only child Victoria by his side.

After graduating Medical School in Poland, Mike relocated to England where he completed his OB/GYN training and received his MRCOG later followed by FRCOG in 1985. He became a naturalized citizen of England and then moved to Saint John NB, Canada in 1973. Mike began his fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology through Dalhousie Medical School to qualify for the Canadian specialty of OB/GYN.

It was in Saint John in 1974, where he met Susan Linda Adams and following their marriage in 1976, they moved to Toronto where he finished both Canadian and American exams for Obstetrics and Gynecology. They ultimately settled in Bathurst NB where he built his practice for over 35 years caring for patients throughout the northern part of NB. A proud and emotional day for them was when he became a Canadian citizen. Aside from his deep commitment to medicine, it was in Bathurst where he and Susan made many happy memories cooking with friends over Friday night dinners.

The true joy of his life, Victoria born in 1991, showed him to be a most loving and proud Dad. Mike instilled his love of medicine and work ethic in Victoria in her early childhood by taking her on rounds on weekends and to the office for the weekly staff pizza days. Though he was not always focused solely on work, as some of his fondest memories were of the annual trips with family friends to Disney in his daughter’s early years.

He was awarded Life Membership in the NB Medical Society after serving years on various committees. Mike’s love of jazz led him to join the Bathurst Community Concert Band and learn to play the tenor saxophone. Following his retirement, he and Susan relocated to Fredericton and spent the winters in Arizona where he developed a love for pickleball and helped develop the first pickleball courts in the City of Fredericton. Throughout his life, family was of the utmost importance so there was no question about he and Susan relocating to Edmonton Alberta in 2021 where Victoria is completing her surgical residency.

In lieu of flowers and according to Mike’s wishes, Victoria & Susan would appreciate that any donation be made to Pilgrims Hospice where Mike spent his last two weeks. He and his family were and continue to be ever so grateful for the compassionate and loving care of all the Pilgrim’s staff.

Ken Nott
Passed away on March 30, 2024

Ken was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and moved to the Edmonton area when he was a child. Ken married Nicole and they resided in the Edmonton area. They welcomed twin boys and enjoyed a beautiful family life together. Ken lost the war with cancer after battling with it for the past two years.

Ken leaves his wife, Nicole and sons Ethan and Joshua. His parents Terry and Kathy and brother Robert and his family. His in-laws Pat and Remi Dechamplain, brother in law Neil (Anna) and nieces Natalya and Anaka. He is also survived by extended family and friends. Ken was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Christian and Florence Bauer and paternal grandparents Mona and Robert Nott and step-grandma Ann.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, April 14th at 3:30 pm at the Sherwood Park Bowling Lanes, 301-975 Fir Street, Sherwood Park, AB. All are welcome to share fun stories. Kyle Allen Brisebois
April 6 1998 – March 2 2024

Our wonderful son passed away at the very young age of 25.

Kyle lived and breathed sports. He was always cheering on his favorite teams, The Toronto Maple Leafs, Green Bay Packers and Boston Red Sox. He was also a gifted athlete, playing multiple sports during his young life at a competitive and elite level. Kyle’s true passion was playing baseball and dodgeball, where he travelled all over the world for tournaments.

Kyle had a heart of gold and was always available when a friend needed it. You could always count on him for support and he was there to put a smile on your face, lend an ear to listen or give a big hug.

Kyle leaves behind his loving parents Keith and Terri, his younger brother Jeremy, the love of his life Jalea, extended family, thousands of friends and predeceased by his Grandmother Yvette and Grandfather Bill.

Please think of our son often. Keeping him always in your heart and memories. And remember, it doesn’t cost a cent to be nice to people.

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of John Reginald Gerrior, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Affectionately known as Reg, he was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and later moved to Halifax. Eventually Reg would find himself under the Alberta skies.

Reg was predeceased by his father John and his mother Beatrice. Reg is also
predeceased by his sisters Marie and Verna, and brothers Bill and Tom. Reg is survived by his wife of 48 years Barbara, AB, son Michael, AB, son Darren, NS, granddaughter Mikyla, AB, brother Herman (Avis), sister Delores (Mike) all of BC, sister Theresa (Don) NS, Evelyn (Michael) NS, and many nieces and nephews.

Early in life Reg would leave Sydney and move to Halifax with his parents. His father would operate a shoe repair business and Reg would learn the trade. It was in Halifax that Reg found his love of music. Reg would also find his other love, Barbara, first meeting at the Fireman’s Club dance in 1976, remaining side by side for the next 48 years.

Before duct tape was readily available and people still didn’t realize you could paint a car with a roller, Reg found a way to make things work. From a $50 car to a broken fishing rod, Reg found a way to go fishing when visiting Mulgrave, and for Barbra to go cruising down the highway in style.

Reg taught himself to play guitar and began to accompany his father and friends on the violins. From there he would become a local legend, being featured on 2 TV broadcast and playing with many well-known artists, including Bobby Curlola. House parties would be turned up a notchonce a guitar made its way into Reg’s hands. Prior to his passing the process of getting Reg inducted into the Nova Scotia Music Hall of Fame was underway, regardless, Reg’s positive music vibes and a grin that stretched ear to ear will live on in our hearts and minds until we see him again.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date in Nova Scotia with immediate family and friends.

It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Kyle Daniel Constantine, 35, on 03 March 2024 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Born in Halifax Nova Scotia, he was the son of Donna (Beeson) Constantine & the late William (Bill) Constantine.

Surviving are his brother Todd (Rachael) & their children Landon and Easton, of Petawawa, ON; Aunts Carol Ann (Titus) Campbell and Lynn Beeson, of Cape Breton, NS, Christine Foley of Edmonton, AB, and Theresa (Stephen) Smith of Waterville, NS; as well as his Grand-aunts and Grand Uncle, and many cousins.

Besides his dad, Kyle was predeceased by his aunts Connie (Curtis) MacAulay, Patricia Constantine, and Catherine (Darrell) Bezanson; Uncles Michael and John Constantine; and Grandparents Sadie and Dan Hughie Beeson, and Carol and Linus Constantine.

For the past 11 years, Kyle worked as an Industrial Welder in Edmonton. He was very proud of his welding accomplishments . He had many loyal and dedicated friends in both Edmonton and Petawawa. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him!

He was quite a comedian with a contagious smile. If you ever received a hug from Kyle you will always remember it. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs & always wore memorabilia.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday 24 March 2024, with service starting at 1pm at Silver Threads, 1163 Victoria St, Petawawa Ontario. (Lunch to follow)
