Gordon Allen Reid (December 9, 1957 – February 5, 2024)

Gordon was born in a small town in Saskatchewan to Ivy and Edwin Reid. Gordon spent most of his young adult life in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan before moving to Edson, Alberta.
Gordon had three children with Lois Reid (McFall). Michelle Martin (Cory), their four children, Ciarra (Nick Elgert), Brody, William (Katelyn), and Brandt. Rachel Bachman (Kevin), their son, Archie. Michael Reid (Biljana) and their three children, Ana Maria, Nikolina, and Eric.

Gordon shared his home with his beautiful, loving wife of 13.5 years. Twyla and Gordon knew each other most of their lives and finally got together in 2010. They built a
beautiful life together. Gordon enjoyed having Twyla’s family join his own. He built many
memories with her son Trevor Kraig (Anna) their two children, Cheyanne and Wayde, her daughter Jody Morris (Chris), and their two children, Haley and Lily.

Gordon eventually moved to Thorsby, Alberta where he lived for the last 13.5 years. Gordon was well-liked, the life of the party and the coffee shop. His jokes and storytelling were known all around Saskatchewan and Alberta. Gordon loved being outdoors and spending time with his family. He had 10 siblings, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Gordon was also the middle child; he was the glue that held his family together. If he wasn’t organizing ball games at Ruby Lake, he was trying to dump you off the tube behind the boat.

Gordon worked most of his life in the forestry industry, have it be, driving trucks, hauling logs and chips, or running various pieces of equipment.

Gordon enjoyed playing slow-pitch, horseshoes, camping, quadding, horses, cooking over the open fire, and birds. His love for birds was very evident by the many birdhouses in his yard. Twyla and Gordon spent countless hours beautifying their yard. He called their home the Sugar Shack. Gordon loved garage sales, he would scour the papers and Facebook to see where the best ones were. He found many treasures and would spend many hours bringing those treasures back to life to use in their yard.

Gordon is predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Ivy Reid, his brother, Gilbert Reid, nephew, Kevin Reid, brother-in-law, Marcel LeBlue, sisters in law, Madeline Reid, Carolyn Reid, and Audrey Reid. Gordon is survived by his siblings, Tim Reid, Terry Menzies (Allan), Gerald Reid, Barry Reid, Marilyn LeBlue, Ronnie Reid (Kim), Bruce Reid (Marge), Darla Reid, Carrie Kowalko (Brian) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Mary Jocelyn Ladouceur (ne Livingstone), was born in Brookville, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, August 17th, 1935.

Mary was a free spirit, a fighter, an artist, and a loving mother and friend to many across Canada.

Mary always worked hard since leaving school at 13 to earn money for her family, Mary was the epitome of a hard worker.

Mary met Andrew Joseph Archille Ladouceur at a party when she lived in Montreal. Andrew was a telegrapher in the navy and Mary was quite taken with the handsome, witty young man and the two of them quickly fell in love. It would be a love that lasted a lifetime.

Mary became a loving mother of one son, Andrew, and two daughters, Dale and Lily. She also became a world-class seamstress, a top salesperson, an environmental and social activist, an early nutritionist and an amateur Theologian, investigating many religions and, over time, building a strong, spiritual testimony.

All her life, Mary maintained an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, to the degree that was made clear when you saw her library – books filled with highlighter, sticky notes, and pressed flowers. Books on anatomy, poetry, nutrition, fine art, science, Albert Einstein and Gordon Lightfoot.

Although Mary was not able to fully explore her creative talents, they would reveal themselves, on occasion, through writings, poetry, drawings, sculpture, clothing design and her sense of humour.

Mary loved Canada and her wanderings had her live in a number of provinces across the country. She loved family, loved the concept of “home” and yet, had dreams of seeing the world.

From her thirties, onward, Mary taught herself a tremendous amount about automotives, eventually knowing enough to shock and surprise any mechanic brave enough to try to sell her unnecessary replacement parts.

Mary never missed an opportunity to engage: from coast to coast, she made loyal friends with compassion, charm and thoughtful engagement. She was not averse to other kinds of engagement, having strong and passionate opinions about social injustice and environmental causes.

Mary loved to laugh. Some of her favorite comics: Stephen Wright, Robin Williams and Monty Python. She loved classic art and opera and had a keen eye for high quality in fashion, fine art and hand crafted furniture.

Mary loved her children and loved to tell them “I’d just dry up and blow away without you.”

Mary loved her grandchildren. She was so proud of Aaron & Mariah, Lily’s children, Logan and Carter, Andrew’s two son’s and our son Ramsay. She loved her great grandchildren too: Izzy, Michael, Isys and Freyja.

Mary made a huge difference in this world and will be greatly missed.

January 12, 1961 – January 29, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved brother, uncle and dear friend. Kevin leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness and cherished
memories that will forever echo in our hearts. He lived a private life, while having a passion for, and enjoying a very long career in the construction industry.

He was humble and quiet about his accomplishments and enjoyed travelling; he loved wide open spaces; cruising on his motorcycle and exploring each new place with a sense of adventure. Kevin was also a proud ‘Cape Bretoner’, living his first 40 years in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, before relocating to Alberta to pursue his dreams. He loved Cape Breton and often spoke fondly of his time there. He was a talented trumpet player, playing in his younger years with the Port Hawkesbury Youth Band.

He is fondly remembered by sister Joyce (David); brothers: Peter, Jeff (Renée), Derrick, and Raymond; Nieces and Nephew’s: Louella (Jake), Dylan (Zena), Carsyn (Isaac), Krista, Alayna, Allie, and Kelsey, and his special friends: Gord, Yvonne and Ralph. Kevin is
predeceased by Parents: Neil; Shirley Hartling, brother Scott, grandparents Raymond and Margaret Hartling, and Frank; Annie Taggart. His kind, quiet and loving soul will be missed by all who adored him.

May Kevin rest in peace and may he live on through our fond and cherished memories of him.

With grieving hearts we share the passing of our precious
daughter, sister, niece, and granddaughter Brittany Jade Moss on January 17, 2024. She left this world to begin her heavenly walk, surrounded by God’s Great Love, Peace and Joy.

Brittany was born on September 8, 1984, in Edmonton Alberta. As the first born , she brought sweet joy and laughter to her parents, Laurie and Jim. In the first years of her life she became big sister and loved caring for her baby Jordan. South Edmonton was home until 1991, when Brittany moved with her mom and sister, first to north Edmonton and then settled in St Albert where school years and treasured friends saw her completing high school at Paul Kane High School in 2002.

Brittany was born with the love to dance and starting classes at a very young age. She grew to become an accomplished dancer with the well known Ukrainian Volya ensemble from Edmonton. Brittany had always been a loyal and hard working employee and her presence of light and laughter was enjoyed by many with positions both with finance companies and the City of Edmonton.

Summer was Brittany’s favourite time of year. Having family in British Columbia, many a holiday was spent at the beaches and lakes under the rays of the sun. In her adult years she frequently visited Mexico and dreamed one day of moving somewhere warm.

Brittany and her sister Jordan so enjoyed their ‘Moss’ days with their father Jim and looked forward to spending time with his family and friends. Little sister Julia was born into Britt’s biggest fan at dance recitals, and through the years they shared blessed
moments together in time and prayer. Brittany has always been a big advocate for fitness and health. She enjoyed this shared passion with her brother Chase and spend bonding hours at their favourite gym.

The hearts of her siblings are torn in the loss of their ‘Britts.’

Brittany was created to be a puppy mama and meticulously cared for her two loves, Hercules and Apollo. Many an hour and day found her and her pups walking the river
valley trails. These were also Laurie’s happy mama moments as she joined her daughter in many walks and talks. Britt’s gentle and caring way provided a second home for her
uncle Joey, as she and her then companion Steven Besenyei, watched over his daily life and engagements around Edmonton.

Her generosity with time and computer savvy also found her in assisting stepdad Harvey in typing out sermons and as well assisting with Laurie’s articles and video’s.

Brittany was given a unique and passionate personality. Firm in her convictions she found herself standing strong in many circumstances throughout her life. Still struggles that were once light became incredibly heavy. With a rapidly changing world and
influences unbeknownst and unimaginable to her and her family, unbearable pain
became her constant companion. She left this earth in a quiet passing.

Brittany is survived by her mother Laurie Penner (nee Matwychuk), stepdad Harvey Penner, sisters Jordan Taylor Moss, Julia Rae Penner and brother Chase Dodd, maternal grandmother Adina Schmidt, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is pre deceased by her father James Moss, grandparents Lloyd and Sophie Moss, grandfather Steve Matwychuk, step grandparents Henry and Martha Penner, uncles Mervin Moss, Fred Moss, Joey Moss and Steven Moss, step aunt Arlene Penner and cousin Dawn Moss.

All loved her greatly.

A celebration of her life will take place this summer with family and friends under the warmth of the sun.

It is with a great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Sharon Vivian Sobus (nee Hutton) departed from this world quietly and pain free at the Sturgeon Community Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. We wish to thank the countless nurses and doctors who provided such loving care for our mother in her final journey. With your angelic care our mother’s final days struggling with chronic illness were valiant, kind and peaceful. While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable woman, we find solace in knowing that she is resting comfortably holding the hands of her boys who have gone before her. She was born on October 21, 1942 in Neepawa, Manitoba. Growing up, she shared many cherished memories with her siblings, who were her lifelong companions. Their bonds of love and support brought immeasurable joy to her life. As she journeyed through life, she became a nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and raised a beautiful family both biological and adoptive that brought her Immense happiness and joy. Her unwavering dedication and love for children knew no bounds, and she was always there for them, guiding and encouraging them in every step of their lives. However, death has a way of leaving an indelible mark on the lives it touches. Before her passing, she endured the loss of her parents, husband and both her sons. Through her ability to share such colourful stories we will now cherish them all and her memory of each of their remarkable impact lives on, forever etched in our hearts and minds. As she would have, let us take a moment to honor their lives and the impact they had on her journey. Let us remember them as vibrant souls who brought light and love to her.
During her 81 years with us, she exhibited qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. She was known for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering support. Her ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face was truly a gift that brightened the lives of many. Her ability to love unconditionally and accept all she met afforded her the opportunity to have an immeasurable amount of children and adults alike call her mom. While we bid our final farewell, let us cherish the memories we shared with her. Though she may no longer physically be present, her spirit shall forever live on within each of us. We honor her legacy and the love that will continue to unite us as a family.
In memory of our beloved mother, sister and friend , let us continue to celebrate the bonds of family, remembering the enduring love that will forever connect us.

May 8, 1945 – Jan 20, 2024

Claire passed away rather unexpectedly after months of complications following surgery. Left to mourn are her children Victoria Helmers and Danny (Hollie) Helmers,
grandchildren Christina Harrington and Kara Pitre, Sophia and Grayson Helmers, sisters Carmen Pearce and Janice MacNeil, sister-in-law Sandra Sansom as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Philip Sansom.

Claire was a vibrant woman. She was witty, intelligent, sarcastic, a brilliant writer, caring, vivacious, beautiful inside and out, a well-loved member of the LDS Church, she couldn’t wait to be a grandma and enjoyed every minute with her grandchildren, and she loved her children immensely. She also enjoyed being with her family, and was the loudest at every family gathering. She had a wonderful laugh, was passionate about American
politics, and the Toronto Blue Jays. She was giving, loved buying gifts and wrapping them beautifully. She loved the beauty of spring, summer and fall, and couldn’t wait to spend time at the lake, outdoor pools, and Hawrelak park every summer. A KFC picnic was a must-have when she took us to the pool or lake, while we lived in Lethbridge AB. She was a fantastic cook, who made the best carrot cake and spaghetti sauce, and spent Saturdays baking bread, buns, and cinnamon buns, way back when. She was liked and loved by everyone who knew her, our hearts break for this enormous loss, and she will be missed forever.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 5th at 1 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints at 1203-109 Street NW Edmonton, AB. Victoria and Danny request that all attendees wear something red, or pin a red rose to their shirt in honour of Claire, as it was her favourite colour.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Florence (Flo) Groves on January 25, 2024 at the age of 80.

Flo is survived by her husband Bert, daughters Charlotte (David), Lynnette (John / Rigel), sister Agnes, brother in-law Stan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Flo loved music and dancing. Today, when remembering her; play some music and dance!

A service to celebrate Flo will be held in the spring when flowers start blooming.

Donations in Flo’s memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit (Unit 43) – Grey Nuns Community Hospital.

Daughter to Fritz and Deane Krueger, Sharon was born in High Prairie, Alberta.  She spent her early years growing up on the farm with her sister Jean, honing her skills in the kitchen making pies and cookies.  Always dreaming of life in the city, Sharon moved to Edmonton after completing high school.  She graduated from Alberta College with a Secretarial Diploma and began working for IBM.  Soon she met Gord, and together they had their first child, Rob.  Sharon continued to work while raising Rob and supporting Gord through his career and education.  After the birth of their second child, Kim, Sharon spent several years at home caring for her family.  

Later, she returned to the workforce and began a long and meaningful career with the Government of Alberta.  She began as a secretary with Alberta Public Safety Services (now Public Safety and Emergency Services).  She continually developed her skills and abilities with remarkable determination, completing a Social Work Certificate from the University of Waterloo while simultaneously working full-time and raising her family.  This allowed her to attain more senior positions, eventually achieving the role of Emergency Management Officer.  Sharon played an important role in helping
communities not only plan and prepare for potential emergencies, but also to coordinate and provide relief after disaster struck.  She was heavily involved in the response for many of Alberta’s floods, fires and tornadoes, as well as spending several weeks in Kauai in the aftermath of Hurricane Iniki.

Without a doubt the highlight of working for the provincial government was meeting her best friend and dance partner, Larry.  Together, Sharon and Larry lived life to the fullest, always with an adventure on the go.  They travelled, danced, golfed, and played tennis and pickleball through their retirement years, always finding quality time to spend with family.  Sharon also kept a beautiful garden, which was always admired by all.  She
cherished their time as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona (Greenfield Village), finding a
wonderful community of close friends to share their passions with.

Sharon will be deeply missed by her loving husband Larry and her children Rob (Tracey) and Kim (Simon), as well as Larry’s children Greg (Lana) and Laurie (Steve).  She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Parker, Chase, Ollie, Birch, Braden, Kayla, Cole, and Caleb as well as her sister Jean (Wayne) and their children Cory and Carla (Nic, Sophie).

A memorial service will be planned for a later day, when the grass is green and the
flowers are blooming.

Maria “Fatima” Chung, was a caring mother, vavo, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024 at age 66.

Fatima is survived by her three sons: Jeffery (Colby), Michael
(Andrea), and Andrew (Tina), four grandchildren: Daxton, Aubrey, Raina and Emery, sister Maria, brother John (Don) and other close relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother Lourdes Delima and father Joao Delima.

Fatima loved spending time with her family and friends. Known for her amazing smile, sense of humour and her knack for being a jokester. She also loved spending time dancing, crocheting and watching horror movies. She was a stubborn but strong woman who always put others first.

Please join us as we come together to honour and celebrate the life of Fatima on February 4th, 2024 from 1pm – 4pm at Cattail Crossing Golf Club (24427 Township Rd 542, Edmonton, AB). As one of her last requests, Fatima wants everyone to wear tie-dye and jeans or other brightly coloured clothing.

Fatima’s quality and length of life was greatly extended by the phenomenal end of life care she received at the Roozen Family Hospice Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to this wonderful organization here.
