Barbara May Louhela
July 5, 1938-November 12,2023

Lori, Terry and Kathy are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother Barbara May Louhela. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was predeceased by her husband Gary Louhela, her parents Myron and Lillie Crosbie, and her brother Kenny.

She leaves to mourn her beloved daughters Lori Louhela (Dave Chapman), Terry Louhela (Houde), Kathy (Syl) Kucher, grandsons Tyler and Adam Houde, and sister Lorna Smith (Crosbie). Mom also leaves to mourn the family and close friends she gathered throughout her life.

Mom was born in Rocky Mountain House and spent the majority of her life in the Bow Valley. After marrying, Mom & Dad lived in Canmore while raising their family.

As kids growing up in Canmore our home was often full. Everyone seemed to gravitate there, as Moms’s door was always open. She made it a safe place to land for whoever needed it.

Throughout her life, family and friends were drawn to her because of her beautiful smile, her warmth and her sense of humour. Her big heart, words of advice (even when unsolicited) and spunky spirit always invited you in for that hug.

Nothing made Mom happier than having her “three chicks” by her side. We had a special bond that others frequently commented on. Whenever that happened we would look at her, smile, and say “yes we do”. We were truly blessed.

Ty and Adam are so very fortunate to have had their “Grams” be such an integral part of their early lives. Her endless love and strong influence helped them become the young men they are today. She was so proud of them and they will miss her immensely.

Mom was so fortunate to have had the best, most compassionate medical teams, including Dr Michelle Paradis and her amazing staff at Snowy Owl Medical Clinic and Dr Michael Wong of the hematology clinic at the PLC. The staff at Rockyview Lodge were like family. Mom formed special bonds that will not be forgotten. The palliative care teams guided us through difficult times with kindness. We could not have navigated this journey without you all.

At moms request there will be no funeral service. A celebration of her life is being planned for the spring of 2024.

Elaine Virgina Brodeur passed away Nov 4, 2023, due to illness. She leaves two sons, Michael Pothier and Christopher Pothier, along with her sisters Paulett , Pat, and Threasa, and brother Paul. She will be missed by everyone she met.

It is with great sadness that the Bauer family announces the
passing of our much-loved patriarch Donald Hugh Bauer at the age of 99 in Edmonton.

‘Don’ was an only child who was pre-deceased by his parents Hugh Bauer & Winifred Bauer (nee Toogood) of Toronto, and his loving wife of 53 years, Hilda Bauer (nee Gillette) from Round Harbour Newfoundland who passed away in Edmonton in 2003.

He is survived by his loving sons Doug (Paula) & Chris (Donna); grandchildren Innessa, Lee (Anabel), Amanda, & Allison (Justin); and great-grandchildren Raiden and Orion, & Tiffany.

Don was born and raised in the ‘Beaches’ area of Toronto on Lake Ontario. After finishing high school he did what many of his peers did at that time, which was to enlist in the WW2 effort to defeat the looming threat of Nazi Germany. Don’s parents Hugh & Winifred had both been WW1 Veterans in the Canadian & British Medical Corps
respectively, during the ‘Great War’ 1914 – 1918. His parents having witnessed the frontline bloodshed and horrors of WW1 were reluctant to encourage their only child to enlist, but Don was determined to contribute to the cessation of Nazi Germany’s world threat.

At first Don joined the Canadian Armed Forces Infantry but immediately felt this was not his calling, so he pursued a transfer to the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was initially
refused a transfer but with further perseverance and letters of determination he was
finally granted a transfer to the RCAF and began his training for Sergeant Air Gunner in Joliette Quebec, where he received his ‘AG’ wings of certification, and reported for active duty to be assigned to the Australian front to fight the Japanese in the South Pacific.

After the war, Don pursued a career in teaching and graduated from Victoria College at the University of Toronto in 1948. His teaching career spanned over 30 years in various schools with the City of Toronto Board of Education; which included a sabbatical
teaching stint in England in 1965 & 1966. He met and married Hilda Gillette in Toronto in 1950; she had recently immigrated to Canada from Newfoundland in 1947.

In the early 1950’s Don & Hilda finally settled in Don Mills, ‘Canada’s First Planned Community’ in central Toronto, where over the years they owned 4 family homes to raise their 2 boys Doug & Chris. Don also built a family cottage in 1960 on an island at Stoney Lake in the Kawarthas to enhance his family’s life. In 1981 Don & Hilda decided they would like to retire in a smaller Canadian city, and Edmonton was their choice.

Don was baptized an Anglican but was not a religious man. He had a great respect and
affiliation with a number of Anglican churches over the years, mainly due to his love of community and singing in church choirs. He extended his passion of singing beyond church choirs, to being a member of the Edmonton St. David’s Welshman’s Choir for many years, often doing concerts at the Edmonton Winspear Centre. However, his true love of music was the Big Band Music Era of the ‘40’s & ‘50’s and was able to sing the lyrics of dozens of songs by heart. During his life Don was a very generous man who
donated to countless charitable organizations, as well as contributing much of his free time to volunteer work.

In retirement Don’s passions and loves included spending time at the family cottage he built at Stoney Lake Ontario, boating, swimming, and traveling the world. He also always had a special loving relationship with dogs he owned or met during the course of his life.

Don will be very much missed by all family & friends. Don chose not to have a
conventional funeral or Celebration of Life event, but rather to simply be interred and
reunited with his wife Hilda at the Glenwood Cemetery in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

If anyone would like to make a donation to honour Don’s life; Canterbury Foundation of Edmonton would be the most appropriate. Don spent his final 16 years of life living at this exceptional Edmonton Seniors Residence, and he always had nothing but praise for the all the staff & management on every level. He felt incredibly blessed living there.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michel Dube at age 65, on October 12, 2023.

Michel was born on October 29, 1957 at exactly 4:20 at New-Liskeard, Ontario.

He is survived by his wife Guylaine; his three sons Jeremie, Etienne, and Joel; his
daughter-in-law Melissa; his grandkids Eden, Antone, Psymon, and Penny; his only
brother Marc; and sister and brother-in-law Mimi and Roger.

Michel was a most amazing man always willing to help anyone. He was an awesome
husband, great loving father and grand-father and best friend to many.

A celebration of life will be scheduled next summer. Further notice will be send through social media, or contact Guylaine, Jeremie, Etienne, or Joel.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helmut Tonn of the City of Edmonton. He was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada from Germany at the age of three.

Helmut is survived by his sisters Erika Williams and Monica Neilson (Mark), who were with him at his last breath after a battle with brain cancer. Helmut also leaves behind niece Angela Dolanz (Dallas), nephews Chris Williams, Danny Williams (Tara), their children Nicholas and Mia, Brandon Neilson and Kyle Neilson.

Helmut was predeceased by infant brother Udo, mother Ida Jager, father Arnold Tonn, step father Sigi Jager, and brother in law Wayne Williams.
Helmut tried many jobs and careers but most enjoyed driving for Co-op Cabs. He enjoyed working on vehicles and tinkering in the garage, gardening, riding his bike and motorbike, taking some long trips on both.
Helmut was easygoing and friendly and went out of his way to assist people who needed a helping hand. He took care of his mother and step dad in their home when their health was failing. He was generous with his time and liked a long chat with friends and family. He is missed already.

A small memorial will be held with family and friends.

It is with extreme sadness that we announce Kimberly Ann Wittenberg of Sherwood Park, AB, passed away at the age of 48 on October 27, 2023. Kim was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many.

Kim was born on April 4, 1975, in Prince George, BC. Her family moved throughout Western Canada with Kim ultimately settling in Edmonton.

Kim earned a degree in Interior Design and had a strong penchant for aesthetic and design, putting them to good use in her careers at Finesse Furniture and Interiors, and later, at Carlton Cards as an installer and territory manager.

Kim was selfless, always looking out for those around her. She was kind and generous with her time and energy and added light and colour to everything around her.

Kim enjoyed family gatherings, good conversation, great food, listening to music, going to concerts, travelling, and experiencing new adventures. Her creative side had no limits she was always trying something new.

The love Kim had for her children was inspiring. Everything she did was to set them up for success in the future. She was truly an amazing mother and extremely proud seeing her children grow into strong independent young adults.

Kimberly was a vivacious, beautiful, outgoing, and generous soul who cherished her family and friends above all else. She faced more hardships in her young life than anyone should have to and was unbelievably courageous and fierce battling against cancer.

Kimberly is survived by her common-law spouse Jason Dunbar; her son, Joel Wittenberg-Cardinal and his wife Sophie along with their daughters Teena and Athena; her daughter Kate Wittenberg; her daughter Kristen Wittenberg and her partner Kurt Dal; her daughter Jillian Wittenberg and her partner Nathan Thunder; her stepdaughter McRae Dunbar; her Gramma Rosemary Johnston; her parents-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Wittenberg; her sister Amanda Hall and her husband Rod along with RJ and Cadence; her father and his wife, Allen and Lori Lewis along with Paul; her sister Andrea Lewis and her husband Rob along with Candace and Mikayla; her sister Rachel Lewis and her partner Steve along with Troy, Robyn, Ivy and Silas; her parents-in-law, Bruce and Brenda Dunbar; her brother-in-law Andrew Dunbar. Kimberly was preceded in death by her spouse, Jordon Wittenberg, and her grandson, Jordon Wittenberg-Cardinal.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for family members to honor Kimberly’s memory.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in honor of Kimberly’s courageous battle against cancer.

Eva Penzes-Wright
August 7, 1933 – October 31, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eva Penzes-Wright. She was born in Veszprem, Hungary at a tumultuous time in world events. She met her future husband Istvan (Stephan) Penzes in high school. They were married in May 1955 and emigrated to Canada during the Hungarian uprising of 1957.

After a short stint in Trail BC, they moved to Edmonton where Istvan finished his post graduate education as a chemist and Eva raised their two sons (Steven and Ken) while running the household and working as a piano teacher. After Istvan’s passing in 1975, Eva took solace in her work and community at St Paul’s United church where she met Dr Robert Earl Wright who became her second husband in November 1982.

The two of them enjoyed the great outdoors and often travelled throughout North America in their VW camper van. They also took many trips to various world destinations and enjoyed adventures such as chartered flights to Kluane National Park, catamaran cruising in the Aegean, and bus touring through the Balkans. They ultimately fell in love with Puerto Vallarta where they spent many months over the coming years taking refuge in their condo from the Edmonton winters.

After Robert’s passing in 2015, Eva continued her travels while she was able. In recent years she took much comfort with her family, friends, community, church, and her faith. She lived a full and complete life and will be missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her sons Steven and his family and Ken; her sister-in-law Aniko Toth and her family; and by the Wright children Elizabeth Emslie and her family and Todd Wright and his family. Eva was predeceased by her parents, Lajos and Ilona Toth, brother Sandor Toth, and her daughter-in-law Tracy Gaye Hanton.

Memorial arrangements will be announced at a future time. You are encouraged to remember Eva and celebrate her life in your own way. In addition, please feel free to make a donation in her name to your charity of choice.

Bill was born on June 3, 1939, in Castor, Alberta and passed on October 31, 2023, in Edmonton, Alberta.

Bill is survived by his wife Marianne, his children Tim Tipper, Bill Tipper Jr (Roxanne), Heather Watson (Tipper) (Steve), Mike Schurek (Shari) and Chris Schurek (Shanta). Bill will lovingly be remembered by his grandchildren Kristi, Melissa, Matthew, Anthony, Jaedon, Emma, Hannah, Kasey, and Georgia, as well as his great grandchildren Jordyn, Kayla, Madeline, Maya, Jaxton, Kayden, and Zayden. Bill was predeceased by his youngest son Mark Tipper who passed in 1990.

Bill was an adventurous soul who lived across Canada, making homes in Nova Scotia, Yukon, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Bill never turned down the opportunity to master a new job and worked over the years as pin setter in bowling alley, cab driver, barber, bartender, house painter, equipment operator and project manager. There was nothing that bill couldn’t do once he set his mind to it.

Bill was a generous soul. He was generous with his time, his ability to forgive and his desire to show his love. He deeply believed in a life of service and for decades he dedicated time to the Kiwanis Club of Abbotsford. His time in Kiwanis brought him great joy and lifelong friendships. Bill worked at not holding grudges and often counselled us on the power of forgiveness. He believed that life was just a blink of an eye and there was not enough time to waste any of it on anger. Bill was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved all his family and friends deeply and welcomed everyone with a huge smile and warm embrace.

He was the joker of the family, quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humour with a little bit of mischievousness added in. Bill loved a good ‘discussion’ (friendly argument) and loved instigating these to see our reactions. Wherever Bill went he made friends, made people laugh and created lasting memories. His family will miss him forever but know that it’s just a blink of an eye until they see each other again.

A celebration to honour Bill will be held on Friday November 17th , 2023 at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church located at 210 Haddow Close NW, Edmonton, AB at 1:00 pm. There will be a lunch to follow. If desired, donations can be made in Bill’s name to the Alberta Lung Association.

It is with heavy hearts and sadness, we mourn the loss of Robert Marshall on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Robert was 52.

He will be forever missed by brothers Wayne (wife Vina), Ronnie and sister Debbie (husband Doug Evanochko). Dear son of Wilfred Marshall and Rena (Taus) predeceased. Uncle of Sherri, Samantha, Kristy, Ashley and Steven. Robert was born in Sudbury, Ontario and later moved to Edmonton to be near his siblings. Robert had a passion for singing and could light up a room with his laugh.
