Debbie Lee Barrie, 50, of Sherwood Park, AB, passed away
peacefully at home on April 19th, 2022 after her 2 year battle with cancer.

She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends who were always entertained by her stories and hilarious sense of
humour — she truly brought the life to the party.

Debbie was born on April 18th, 1972 to Enna and Donna Wiersma in Edmonton, AB.
She was beloved by everyone who had ever met her; a fantastic mother, a great wife, and a best friend to all… No matter the circumstance, you’d always leave with a story of something funny Debbie did while you were with her.

Debbie loved spending time with her family and friends out on the deck in the summer, or on winter vacation in Mexico.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 25 years, Todd, and their beautiful daughter Sydney who she loved deeply. She is also survived by her mother Donna Wiersma; sisters Teresa Wiersma and Barb Wiersma; parents-in-law Ted and Joann Barrie; sister in-law Carmen (Bobby) Fishbrook; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews from both sides of the family…. Debbie is now at peace, joining her dad, Enna, and nephew, Justin Wiersma.

There will be a private celebration of Debbie’s life, for family and close friends on May 15th.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Debbie’s memory to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Lioudmila Rogaeva

Lioudmila (nee Vasilenko) Rogaeva was born on June 16 1955, and passed away on April 11, 2022, at 8:30 PM in her home with all her children and husband by her side. She was 2 months shy of her 67th birthday.

She lived a full life, and leaves behind a sister in Ukraine; her
husband, Rafik (1955); two sons, Victor (1978), and Yuri (1985) & his soon to be wife, Amy Wong (1990).

Lioudmila is the beloved Captain of the Rogaev family, having lead her family from the persecution of the Soviet Union, risking everything to get them to Canada, where all of our dreams came true. Rafik is ready for his twilight retirement, Victor is on his way to a blessed future, while Yuri became a professor and wrote a few books in many languages. All of this because of the bravery of one amazing woman.

Lioudmila loved her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, having memorized the Lord’s Prayer as a child. Over time her Christian faith would mature, and she accepted Christ’s words: “My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never die.”

Mama Mila leaves a wonderful testimony of a life well lived, all who know her deeply love and cherish her time on earth, she lives on in our hearts, memories, and at peace in
heaven. Her Memorial service was conducted on Easter Sunday 2022 at International Bible Baptist Church of Edmonton, AB, with Yuri to officiate and preach this blessed
service. Please click here to listen to the Memorial Service.

Brian Hatchett

I will begin by expressing my thanks to all of you who have reached out to me at this sad and difficult time. Your kind words have meant a lot to me.

Brian Hatchett was born June 28, 1948, at St. Stephen’s hospital in London, England, and died on April 10, 2022, at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, AB. He was the only child of Cyril James Hatchett and Alice Rosina (Ovenden). Brian graduated from Hatfield Polytechnic in 1971 with a BSc (Honours) in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked at various jobs and spent time in the RAF as a Flight Lieutenant before
emigrating to Canada.

Brian arrived at Dorval, PQ on December 12, 1974, as a Landed Immigrant with a job at CAE as a systems engineer. He recalled two challenges: the cold and the French language, which he did master.

Brian worked for Telesat Canada, Spar Aerospace, and the Department of National Defence before moving to Nova Scotia to work with IMP. He ended his career with the National Research Council where he made some dear friends and enjoyed the challenges working with so many companies.

What never ceased to amaze me was how Brian could do just about anything. He was blessed with the intelligence, aptitude, and innate ability to analyze a problem and come up with a solution. He often said if you want a job done right do it yourself, and he
certainly completed many jobs over the past 35 years. He dealt with the practical things like plumbing, electrical, and mechanical but it was his creative side that brought him the most satisfaction. He designed and built a gazebo at Arbor Way, my garden shed, and two cedar strip kayaks to mention just a few.

Brian’s great passion was flying model airplanes, or maybe I should say it was buying planes. He made many good friends and looked forward to his trips to Margaree Valley for the annual gathering.

Brian was not thrilled about leaving Nova Scotia, but he did it for me and for that I will be eternally grateful. A special closeness evolved with Mike, stepson, Stephanie, and
grandchildren Max and Vivian. Brian and Max developed a very close relationship over the years, and the same was happening with Vivian.

The past few years were a challenge for Brian health wise, not to mention being so
restricted by Covid; however, Brian dealt with the situation with courage and
selflessness. He met each challenge head on. He maintained his sense of humour even while in hospital.

Brian will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. We will be having a celebration of Brian’s life at a later date.

Thank you all again for your kindness.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad Nestor Michael Shmyr on Monday, April 18th in Wainwright, Alberta.

He passed peacefully with family by his side. Dad was born in Birtle, Manitoba in 1947, to Michael and Nellie Shmyr. He grew up on the family farm in the RM of Birtle. Upon the retirement of his parents, Dad bought the section of land with the home quarter and there started a family of his own. Seeking better employment opportunities, Dad moved to Alberta in 1988. He found work as an equipment operator in the gravel and aggregate industry. Dad could operate anything he got behind the wheel of, but the front-end loader was his favourite.  In 1990, he met the love of his life Mary May Smith and began calling Wainwright home.
When not working, Dad could be found on the banks of a river, with fishing rod in hand. His favorite spot was the Birdtail River, with Mervin Presniak, Donald Stadnyk, and anyone else willing to go.
He retired in 2017 and enjoyed spending time fishing, going for coffee, backroad cruising, working in his flowerbeds and working in his shop. Dad was the kind of person who could make friends anywhere and with anyone. Above all he loved being a Gido.

He will be remembered by his partner Mary May Smith, sons Aaron (Stacey) Shmyr and Jason Shmyr; stepchildren, Diane (Murray) Alcock, Brian (Connie) Kay, Barbara (Mike) Jacobson, and Debra (Vance) Montgomery; grandchildren, Morgan, Taylor, Sean, Keyarra, Amanda, Hannah, Sarah, Mikey, Lily, and Nellie; sisters, Jeanette (Graham) Clarkson and Josie Richardson; life-long-friend, Mervin Presniak; as well as a large extended family. Nestor was predeceased by his mother Nellie; father Michael; brothers Edward, Leonard, and twin brothers Ronnie and Joseph.

He will be missed tremendously, and we will all remember “a loonie for the first fish”.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. It will consist of family, friends, stories & fishing.

She is survived by her daughters Dilys (Lawrence) Sutherland and Lynn Jones, as well as her granddaughters Margaret Sutherland and Vanessa (Luke) LePine. She was predeceased by her husband Albert, and her sons Garth and Evan.

Eleanor will be remembered for her love of animals, especially the many dogs she had over the years. She was a long time member of her church, and enjoyed many years of singing in the church choir. She was a voracious reader and also loved any opportunity to visit with her friends, especially at the Friday afternoon coffee get togethers. She will be fondly remembered for her infectious laughter and sense of humour.

As per Eleanor’s request, there will be no service.

Please consider a donation in her name to the Edmonton Humane Society. Eleanor would have loved that.

James Gibney

GIBNEY, James
Jan 1, 1946 – Apr 15, 2022

Dad passed away suddenly after a brief hospitalization. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey who was the love of his life. He leaves to mourn his three children, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many family members and friends. Growing up on a farm, he was raised to work hard, stand by your word, be grateful for what you have, and treat everyone as an equal. He was kind and generous, always caring for people and helping them however he could. Dad was a straight shooter (to a fault) who said what was on his mind and this sincere and genuine approach enamored those who he interacted with. In the days since his passing many people have reached out to us to express how much of an impression he left on them. As a husband, father and grandfather he was committed to supporting them in an environment of love, trust and resilience. We are forever grateful for the life lessons he taught us. In the last number of years diabetes impacted dad and we would like to thank the many medical care givers for their dedication and professional support with special thanks to those at the Stony Plain Wound Clinic. He valued his visits to the clinic, and you were as much friends as care givers. Dad is now back together with Audrey, his “little chicken” as he liked to call her. As a private family celebration of life is planned please think about your favourite moments with Jim as a way to remember him.

Donald Frisbee Robinson

It is with profound sadness we announce that, after a courageous battle, Donald Frisbee Robinson passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 8, 2022.

Don will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Carolyn Barr; daughters Christine (Nick) Ingersoll and Amanda (Richard) McCoy; Step-sons Aaron Barr and Cale (Lindsay) Barr; and his grandchildren Alyssa, Lucas, Liam, Alex and Max, who brought him great joy. Also mourning his loss are: sister Deborah Edwardsen; brothers Doug (Mary Ellen) Robinson, David (Mary) Robinson, Duncan (Debbie) Robinson, Dale (Donna) Robinson, Dean (Harriet) Robinson, and Denton (Stacey) Robinson; his Aunt Olive Roeckner; and Donald’s extended family, nieces, nephews and friends. Donald was predeceased by his parents Doug and Dorothy Robinson, and his wife Agnes Robinson.

Don was a member of Eastgate Lodge No. 192 (Ancient Free and Accepted Masons) where he made lifelong friends. He had a huge heart and touched many lives with his generosity, kindness, and accepting nature. He always had a smile for everyone.

Don enjoyed being active at home and afar with daily walks, camping, and when traveling, adventures like swimming with whale sharks and climbing ruins. Don had a
passion for travel and barely got back from one trip before he was planning the next. Carolyn and Don packed many years of memories into their time together, living life to the fullest. He loved dancing and would often pull her in for a quick impromptu dance in the kitchen.

Family was of the utmost importance to Don. He bragged often about his daughters, grandchildren, step-sons and their families. When he and his seven siblings got together, the laughter was constant and the stories became more embellished every time.

Don was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, on May 17, 1948. He lived in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta, traveled to BC for University and graduated from UBC with an Education Degree. During his life he became involved in the family business and spent time in banking. He finished out his career working in property management and development in Morinville.

Don was very loved and will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. There will be a private
celebration of life held May 15th.

Jane Ann Kobeluck

It is with great sadness that we announce that Jane Ann Kobeluck passed away peacefully on March 20, 2022.

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her sister Lorena Gardner as well as her nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Jane was predeceased by her partner Robert Lloyd Dunbar; parents Metro and Mary Kobeluck; brother George Kobeluck; and her sister Florence Konduc.

Jane was born in Thorsby, Alberta and left the farm after finishing school to pursue a
career in Edmonton. She worked as a nurse’s helper at the University Hospital and later as a switchboard operator at the MacDonald Hotel.

Jane was fun to be around and always saw the good in people. Her smile could brighten anyone’s day. She had a love for apple pies and Teenburgers with a coffee on the side, and always looked forward to outings with her niece.

Jane’s caring and kind ways will be deeply missed. Her daily calls to friends and family to check in on their health or just to say hello were of great comfort to many.

Our gratitude goes out to her neighbours for being so great in assisting her with tasks around the house the last few years. We would also like to acknowledge the staff at St. Joe’s Auxiliary Hospital for their compassion and care.

Jane will be interred with Lloyd at Westlawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
