Paul Steven DeMeulenaere passed away on Tuesday May 11th, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Paul is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Patsy) of 43 years and his three children Susan/DeeDee (Ryan), Paul/P.J. (Tanya) and Megan/ BooBoo. He was also gramps to five grandchildren Hailey, Blake, Jack, Cadence and Owen. Paul is also survived by his sister Pat DeMeulenaere (Darrell), several sisters and brothers in law and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was born February 21, 1952 in Edmonton where he was raised and spent his life. He worked for the city as an arborist for over 35 years. Paul was an avid fisherman, camper and gardener, a big lover of the outdoors and animals; especially dogs. These passions created some of the families favorite memories which have been passed down to the next generation. Paul was not a fan of heights and flying but the family managed to get him over his fears by moving away and getting him to visit. He travelled to Australia, Fiji, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Europe and to weddings in Mexico and Cuba.

We will all miss his pickles, his annual pot of stew for camping (even if he wasn’t going), his laugh, sense of humor and his hugs.

The family would like to extend our appreciation to Dr. David Fields, the staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, The Cross Cancer Institute and Norwood Hospice.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to www.albertacancer.ca/in-memory/ would be greatly appreciated.

“Where the ocean meets the sky I’ll be sailin”

Len Robinson was born on September 20th 1949 in Minnedosa, Manitoba.

He grew up outside of Minnedosa, in the town of Clanwilliam, with his four sisters and two brothers. He was a committed brother and successful athlete. He cherished his baseball days with the Clanwilliam Greys and his Hockey years playing for the Minnedosa Bombers. He was an ardent and competitive curler. Len had a lifelong love for golfing, especially with his boys.

In April 1970 he married Brenda, his wife of 51 years. They moved to Sherwood Park, Alberta. He worked and made many friends in the oilfield supply industry. Brenda and Len established and ran a successful consulting and education business together for over 40 years. Sherwood Park became home where together they raised 5 children. Len led a full and busy life raising his family, managing their business as well as coaching and volunteering with minor baseball, minor softball and minor hockey.

Those fortunate enough to know Len know he was a devoted father to his children, Harley, Leigh, Lonnie, Chris and Jill. He could be found at any activity his kids were involved in. He spent countless hours in the winter at the rink with his kids in hockey and ringette. He could be found on top of the concession in the old shell in Sherwood Park shouting encouragement, advice and maybe even a little criticism if you’d earned it. In the summer, he then followed them to the ball diamond where any night of the week you could find Len and one of the Robinson kids playing ball. Len loved sport and passed that passion and joy onto to all his children.

Len was an avid reader, often reading three books at a time. He never lost track of a plot. We will all remember him sitting in a lawn in chair in the shade with a book in hand. He was even known to read, and then to reread a book that he enjoyed if it deserved a second read. Historical fiction, westerns, adventures and mysteries kept his mind active and fully engaged. However, he was not above throwing a book down because it was not worth the read. He collected quotes and loved to share them. One of his favorite quotes and authors was Louis L’Amour. It went:

“The trail is the thing, not the end of the trail. Travel too fast, and you miss all you are traveling for.”

Len’s Grandchildren will remember him as a proud and dedicated Grandpa. His Grandchildren and all of their interests brought him great joy. He cherished his time and his visits with his Grandchildren. Kailey, Ethan, Sequoia, Rayne, Addy and Loxley carry happy memories of holidays and celebrations with Grandpa.

Len is also remembered and loved by his wife Brenda and his children Harley(Carla), Leigh(Dave), Lonnie(Erin), Chris and Jill(Derek). He will be missed by his brothers Rick(Eileen) and Barry(Nicci) and his sisters Peggy(Lloyd), Donna(Dale) and Mavis(Dennis) and his brother in law Ralph. In addition, he will be remembered by his sister in law Karen(Doug) and his brother in law Tom(Jennifer). There are many nieces and nephews whom he loved and cared for in his lifetime.

Len is predeceased by his parents Annie and Don, his beloved sister Jean, his brother in law Jim, sister in law Mary and his mother and father in law Sid and Muriel Carter.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Judy-Lynn Harley (Foster) .Loving wife to husband Curtis, and mother to Daughters Miranda and Danielle .Judy was a feisty no nonsense lady that had a sense of humour and intelligence that couldn’t be rivaled .Judy was predeceased by her brothers Kevin ,Eugene , and Keith and parents Irene and Earl (Nibs) Foster .Judy passed away in her home in Edmonton .

On April 30, 2020, Bartley Emile Gravelle passed away at the age of 54 years old in Wildwood, Alberta.
Bartley was born on August 24, 1965 in Estevan and raised in Macoun, Saskatchewan where his parents farmed until he was 12 years old. The family moved and bought a farm in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. Bart was the true definition of a cowboy. He loved the rodeo and he enjoyed team-roping, calf-roping, riding and bucking bulls. He raised bucking bulls for 23 years and his greatest joy was the springtime when it was calving season and new colts were born.
Bart’s passion was horseback riding and checking cattle in pasture land. Bart won numerous buckles for the team-roping and calf-roping events that he participated in. In his mid-20 Bart who was always looking for more adventure decided to ride bulls. Bart conquered many obstacles in his short life time as at the age of 37, he became a paraplegia due to a farm accident. Bart continued to instill into his young boys, the value of hard work despite life’s challenges. He was adored by his grandchildren and he prided himself in teaching them about hard work, animals and ranching. Bart was a very family oriented and you did not have to be related by blood to be accepted as a family member.
Bartley is survived by his loving family: his wife, Edna of 24 years, their sons: Cantrell (Kassandra), Tyrell, Mitchell (Joslin), Darnell (Misty), Chris (Shauna), Reg (Jasmina) and Steven (Melynn). His grandchildren: Chandler, Ezra, Henry, Branson, McKenna, Emmett, Alexis, Christian, Emily, Ethan, Desta, Adley and Axtyn. His siblings: Cyril, Angela (Gord), Charlena (Brent), Chere (Mark) and Mike; Bart’s mother-in-law, Gloria Edwards; brother-in-law, Celestine (Fran), sisters-in-law, Hannah (Gary) & Doris (Joe). Numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends.
Bart is predeceased by his loving Mother and Father, Jeannette & Bernard Gravelle, his brother, Joseph and his sister, Regina; father in-law George Edwards and his brother-in law, Gerald Edwards and sister in-law Barbara Gravelle.

December 18, 1964 – April 20, 2020
Charlie began his life’s journey from the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on December 18, 1964. On April 20, 2021 Charlie left from the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton Alberta, to live in his eternal home. Thank you Dr. Shurraw and Wirzva, the nurses and staff of Unit 54 for their compassionate care during those last days. Your work is made even more difficult in these times.
Charlie will be sadly missed by sisters Bev Beach (Tom), and Janice dePorto (Dan), brother Tim dePorto, and brother-in-law Dymetro Bordynuik all from Kenora, nieces and nephews: Christy, Wendy, Michael, Erin, Teresa, Ryan, and Justin, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents Art and Norma dePorto, sister Maryellen Bordynuik, and foster brother Kevin Bennett.
Charlie leaves many wonderful memories with his guardians Peter, Linda, and Miranda Ross, and with his amazing care givers: Evaine, Piegi, Jocelyn, Felisa, Anita, and Shalee. He was loved and will be missed by his dear friends Shannon, Stehaine, and Nick.
His guardians thank all those who have supported his life. You gave your hearts of compassion and acted in his best interest. He truly enjoyed life because of you. Thank you, Connie and Kevin who oversaw his care. The Good Samaritan Society lives up to its name, you were the good Samaritan to Charlie, thank you. Many thanks go to Dr. Gushaty, the nurses at the Justik Clinic, and to Dr. Makus for all your care.
Although Charlie enjoyed most of his life, he had difficulty for a period of time. A huge thank you to Jocelyn Austria who supported him through it and went far beyond the call of duty. We appreciated your dedication to Charlie.

Leo Romeo Fontaine
Feb. 4, 1944 – Feb.6, 2021

With great memories and sad hearts our family announce the passing of Leo Fontaine at the age of 77 after an aggressive cancer that began in his lungs had within months claimed his body as well. He passed away at home with family by his side.

Leo was born in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan to Caroline and Joe Fontaine and spent his teen years with his family in Smiley, Saskatchewan where he made life long friends and began working in the oil industry. From the work over rigs he moved to Red Deer where he began working for Otis Pressure Control. He and Mary-Ann married in 1964 and after a stint in High Level, he accepted a transfer with his family to Great Yarmouth, England and began an overseas career in bottom hole safety and pressure that lasted for the next 35 years. His work took him to Norway, Denmark and other areas in Europe, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Bangkok, Africa and Australia. When he retired from Stuart Petroleum in Adelaide, Australia, he and Mary-Ann moved back to Canada.

They spent winters in Edmonton; Spring to Fall were spent in their home at Harrison Hot Springs, BC. Friends and families gathered there and Leo was in his element. He enjoyed being surrounded by people he loved and had no urge to travel in retirement except to cruise the lake in his pontoon boat. He enjoyed being on the deck in the morning, coffee with the neighbors and the rhythm of the lake. We were so lucky to have a man like him in our lives. Leo was genuinely good, kind, generous, with a wicked sense of humor and a generosity of spirit. He didn’t lecture or judge, led by example and loved with an open heart.

Leo was predeceased by his father and mother Joe and Caroline Fontaine, his brothers Lawrence and Andy Lajeunesse, his brother Marcel and nephew Troy Fontaine, his brother-in-law Lloyd Tipman, sister-in-law Fran Stewart and mother-in-law Frances Tipman.

Left to mourn his passing: his wife of 57 years Mary-Ann, two sons Tom and Jody (Michele), and daughter Nicole. Justin Stewart. Grandchildren and extended family, also grand. Logan and Quinn. Dakota (Prahb), Dave, Jackalynne. Devan, Megan. Genis (Luke, Poppy), Theresa, John (deceased), Liz (Craig, Avah, Owen), Maria. Kyla, Zachary, Jordan (Patricia).

Sadly missing him – sisters Geri Holmes and Lucille and Ralph Boudreaux, Emil and Donna Lajeunesse, Gerry Lajeunesse, and Sister-in-Law June Fontaine. In-laws Mike and Marie Tipman, Ken and Lois Erickson, Kathy and Lyle Johnson. There are a wealth of nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews – a host of friends and their families that will remember him with a smile.

Special thanks to the Palliative Home Care NW group who made it possible for us to keep Leo at home and to Doctor Ryan Akroyd whose guidance and compassion were a source of comfort and support.

Leo’s ashes will be interred in Red Deer when the family can get together again.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Joaquim (Joe) Antonio Calado on April 12, 2021.

Joe will be greatly missed by his family; common-law wife Lana Anderson, her daughter Sydney (Scott McLeod); his sister Maria (Claude Cabral); his nephew (Jeffrey), niece (Melissa) and many other relatives, close friends and coworkers.

Joe was born in Portugal, November 9th, 1953 to Antonio and Maria (Clara) Calado.

For 42 years he truly enjoyed driving bus for the Edmonton Transit System.

He was an avid sportsman, both actively; hockey, wallyball, golf; and passively cheering on his Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers.

Joe was a very special man who strongly lived and believed the simple rule of treat others as you would want to be treated.

Rest in peace Joey, until we meet again.

A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be announced when we can safely gather in numbers.
