Roy Galloway
1931-2020

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Roy Eldon Galloway on August 15, 2020, at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his children, Robyn Galloway, Shaun (Linda) Galloway, Kirsten Gillies, Shelagh (Keith) Toyne, Danny Galloway; grandchildren, Steven, Evan, Scott (Jessica), Greg, Carolyn (Aaron), Leah, Mihret, Jesse (Iris), Kelly, Angela (Carl), Lisa, Chantelle (Eric), Elaine; and great-grandchildren, Ariana, Aliyah, Cruz, Kali, Ava.

He is also survived by his brother Elwood (Miriam) Galloway, sisters-in-law Ella Thompson and Donna Galloway. He was predeceased by his loving wife Agnes Thompson, parents Charlie and Elsie Galloway, brother Keith Galloway, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane Galloway, Alice (Ralph) Richardson, Edward Thompson, Stella (Clarence) Jevne.
His grandparents John and Sarah Galloway came to the Fort Saskatchewan district in 1908 from Collingwood Twp, Ontario. The Galloways have farmed in the Fort area for generations, and Roy’s and Elwood’s family have farmed together for decades. Roy loved animals, especially African wildlife. He enjoyed traveling the world with Aggie and spending winters in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Arizona.

Roy’s life will be celebrated in a small gathering of the immediate family. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.simplycremations.com. The family would like to thank Summerwood Village, Jubilee Lodge Nursing Home, and the Grey Nuns Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

Walter Donald Cherneski passed away peacefully on August 4, 2020 in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 81.
Born May 6, 1939 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan to Parents Ann and Matt Cherneski. Walter was one of 5 children in their family.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Matt, loving wife of nearly 55 years, Ardene Cherneski, sisters Vivian Gilbertson (Lionel) and Josie Walters (Jerry)
Walter is survived by his daughters Lana Sikora (Darrel), Karen Rowland (Aaron), Grandchildren Spencer Sikora, Jake Rowland and Mackenzie Richards, sister Cecilia Tropeau (Robert) and Brother Gus Cherneski (Carol), many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.
Walter, a paraplegic for nearly 58 years, never let life in a wheelchair stop him. Before being injured in a motor vehicle accident he was an airplane mechanic with the Royal Canadian Air force. After his lengthy injury recovery, he was placed in hospital with pneumonia where he met his true love, his nurse Ardene Webb. He loved crib and skunked her while playing and she needed to come back that evening and redeem herself. The rest is history as they say.
He went on to live a full life afterwards. He attended and graduated from NAIT as an electrical engineer and spent his career working, alongside his best friend, James Fearn, at the University of Alberta. Walter modified his vehicles to make them work for him along with retrofitting a holiday trailer to go camping with his family. He is well known around Edmonton and the University campus for riding his made for him hand bike that reached top speeds that would scare anyone else in wheelchair. He was featured in both the Edmonton Sun, Journal and a magazine published in the US called Saturday night for that bike. Walter had a charming nature and ability to make fast friends with anyone. He had many accomplishments and loved the Lord fearlessly. We are thankful for his peace and faith to help us through loosing such a wonderful person.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Paraplegic Association in his memory.

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Mary Anne Schram on July 25, 2020 at the age of 70 years.

Mary Anne is survived by her brother Ryan; nephew Jake; niece Karla (Brad); great-nieces and great-nephews, Brooke (Jon), Alexander, Braden, Mason; and great-great-nieces and nephew, Sadie, Cameron and Jacob.

Mary Anne was predeceased by her parents, George and Kathleen Schram and her brothers, David and Richard.

She is also missed by Celeste (Lorne), her best friends for years and their sons, Kyle (Lisha) and Aaron and their grandson Austin. She is also greatly missed by Tracy (Bryan) and Chico III.

She was an RN for 40 plus years at Neonatal Intensive Care Units at both the U of A and RAH.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honour Mary Anne Schram on August 22, 2020 at F. Wandler at 2:00 p.m., 17521-92 Street NW, Edmonton, AB.

Donations in Mary Anne’s honour may be made to STARS Air Ambulance.

It is with sadness that the family of Connie Kendall announces her passing on Monday, August 3, 2020, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 75 years. Connie was born September 19, 1944 in Pictou, NS to the late William and Frances McQuarrie. She grew up in the Annapolis Valley but spent most of her adult life in Halifax, working at the VG Hospital until her retirement. She then relocated to Sherwood Park, Alberta to be near family. Connie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Katherine (Brett) Kimak and her three grandchildren, Adam, Emily and Erin, all of Sherwood Park, AB. Connie will also be fondly remembered by her sister Elaine Klein of Beaverlodge, AB, and her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Connie was predeceased by her sister Geraldine Lyon of Conception Bay South, NL and former spouse Albert Kendall of Prospect Bay, NS.

At her request there will be no memorial service. Cremation has taken place and she will be interred with her mother and sister in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Connie to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

A life well lived!

Grant passed peacefully on August 5,2020 surrounded by his loving family following a long battle with cancer. Survived by Irene, his loving wife of 63 years, his sons Bruce (Dana), Brent (Karen) and David and adoring grandchildren Kara (Jake), Jamie, Baillie (Zach), Connor and Katie. “Our Deepest gratitude to Marie Paul for the love, friendship and care she provided our parents for so many years”

Grant valued family and friendships that were built and sustained over the course of lifetime. He is deeply loved and already missed by his family, the ‘Y Coffee Club’, Saturday morning ‘Breakfast Club’, members of the Royal Mayfair Golf Club and many friends.

Ever the loyal provider, Grant worked tirelessly in the Insurance industry for 43 years, finishing his career as Senior Vice President and a Director of Reed Stenhouse Limited (now known as AON Canada). He served on several Boards of Directors and was President of the Edmonton Construction Association and the Edmonton Chapter of the Insurance Institute of Northern Alberta.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Atwal and the caring, compassionate staff of the Sturgeon Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. It is with great sadness and much love that we say good-bye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who passed away on August 8th at the age of 93.

Mary is survived by her children Denise (Barrie) Shalagan and Brian (Cheryl) Gauthier, six grandchildren, Bobbi (Jason) Maroney, Clay (Sherena) Shalagan, Hank (Kim) Shalagan, Ronni Gauthier (Eli Bowditch), Danielle Gauthier (Alex) and Ashley Gauthier (Britain) and eight great-grandchildren, Ty, Kaden and Charlee Maroney, Eli and Zane Shalagan , Theo Shalagan and Evianna and Rory Bowditch. Mary was predeceased by her husband Gaston of 41 years, parents George and Katherine Kohlman, her sister Tillie Hempel and is survived by her remaining siblings, Francis (Ollie) Kohlman, Rose Deck and Ron (Florentine) Kohlman.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.

Glady’s Ardene Cherneski, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2020 in Edmonton, Alberta at the beautiful age of 79.
Born on March 28, 1941 in Onion Lake, Saskatchewan to Parents Elton and Iola Webb. She was the middle child of seven other siblings.
Ardene is preceded in death by her Parents, Elton and Iola. Sister’s, Irma Grouette (Terry), Luana Washburn (David), Barbara Maxwell (Gordon) and Brother Rodney Webb (Jeanne).
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 55 years, Walter Cherneski (sadly he passed just two weeks after his wife), Daughters Lana Sikora (Darrel), Karen Rowland (Aaron), Grandson’s Spencer Sikora, Jake Rowland and MacKenzie Richards, brother’s Lyle Webb (Dorothy), Curt Webb (Sherry) and Sister Ada Thompson (Lailo). She has many wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins and friends, too many to list. The family reunion that was held yearly is where she loved chatting with each of them. She was a favorite to many and was famous for her bear hugs.
Ardene loved the Lord and knew she would go to a better place and was at peace with whenever it was her time to be with him. We are at peace because she is at peace. She will be missed terribly by everyone and a large void will be felt in the family with her gone. She was an amazing artist, active member of her church, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Ardene’s true compassion for others shone through as she worked as a Registered nurse in Edmonton for all of her career and was her husband’s main caregiver. She loved retirement as it gave her the opportunity to spend more time with family and friends.

Anneli Anna Rauha Thurlin
Anneli Thurlin passed away after a battle with cancer on August 5, 2020, at the age of 77.
Fondly remembered by her loving husband Jaakko, and their 2 sons Eric and Paul. Also grieving are their grandchildren, Matti, Aaron, Jayden, Taylor and Tula. And Anneli’s siblings Taisto in Finland, and Voitto and Tuula in Sweden.
Anneli was a Scandinavian Festival Founder who received an award recently for her 40 years of dedication & service from the the province of Alberta, and a Silver Award from the President of Finland for her contributions for over 50 years of keeping Finnish traditions alive in Canada. Anneli was a long serving member of the Finnish Society of Edmonton, and has embraced new generations of Finnish families to continue the celebration of our culture.
Anneli impacted many lives and was a master of Finnish recipes, an artistic painter, a lover of lake life, and treasured by many. A celebration of Anneli’s life is to be announced.

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Brent Hamilton Penner on July 21, 2020 at the age of 58.
Brent is survived by his sons, Jefferey and Jason, his loving mother Leanne, brother Ervin(Anneliese) caring sister Corrine(Rick) niece Sommer, nephew Adam(Cynthia) and many loving cousins, Aunts & Uncles. Brent was predeceased by his father Irvin Penner. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Royal Alexandra Hospital. A memorial will be held at a later date.
Anyone who knew Brent well, knew he was a spirited man with sharp mind. Which made it extra fun when his humor kicked in. We will miss you Brent.
As a young father at 18 yrs old, Brent’s dream was realized with a budding new family. Sadly it didnt work out. After divorce, Brent put his efforts into education, first completing Carpentry then Construction Engineering at Nait. Brent was a deep & sensitive soul which he channelled into perfecting his craft, showing much creativity in carpentry,inventions,in building, story telling and cooking. His ability made nothing out of his reach. Brent’s biggest love was family, but was also his biggest struggle in relationships. Deep down he wanted love and acceptance, as he truly valued his friendships. At the end of his life, he was super proud of his sons, and wished them happiness in the fulfillment of their dreams.

It is with heavy hearts and much love that the family of Christine (Tina) Stroenisch announces her passing after a long courageous battle with cancer, at her home in Beaumont,Alberta on Sunday July 19,2020 at the age of 59 years old.

Christine (Tina) will be forever and sadly missed by her loving husband Don of 27 years.

Christine (Tina) was an Earth Angel with a Zest and Love for Life. She had a kind, sweet and loving heart, she cared very deeply for her family and friends.
Her Passion for helping people was the highlight of her day whether at work or in her spare time, where she learned Reiki and Energy healing so she could help anyone that needed it.
Her gift, talents and her pure heart will be truly missed.
