With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Papa, Brent Norman Piwowar. Brent passed away on August 16, 2021 at the age of 65, at his home in Spruce Grove, Alberta, surrounded by his children. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Brent managed his cancer with courage and strength and despite the pain, he remained strong until the end.
Brent was born on July 22, 1956 in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan to Bette and Tony Piwowar. He always spoke fondly of growing up in the north and cherished the lifelong friendships he made while in Fort Smith, Hay River and Pine Point. After high school, he met Linda, and they had four children. While they relocated south to Spruce Grove in 1989, Brent still frequented the north with Taurus Contractors, his construction business. Known for his tireless work ethic and a spirit of determination, his contributions to the north are reflected in countless buildings and towers throughout the NWT and Nunavut.
Brent was warm, caring and had a heart of gold. You could find him every morning down at the coffee shop where he enjoyed reading the paper and loved to start up conversation with those around him. His warm smile and friendly personality could instantly put you at ease. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren and he passed on his entrepreneurial nature spending weekends bringing bottles into the bottle depot with his grandchildren. In addition to the north, he enjoyed spending time at his Grandparents’ farm in Kinsella, AB.
Left to cherish his memory are his Children Terry; Brent (Ali), Joanie (Rick), Holly (Devin); his grandchildren, Ethan, Noah, Chloe, Bailey, Mason and Nash. He will be missed by numerous other relatives and friends. Brent was preceded in his death by his parents and younger sister, Corinne Piwowar.
Cremation has taken place on August 20th and a Celebration of Brent’s Life will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the Elks Hall, 400 Diamond Avenue, Spruce Grove, AB.
Special thanks to Catherine from Westview Health for her compassion and excellent care of Dad during his final days at home. We would also like to thank Dr. Castillo and the staff at the CIPAG Clinic in Tijuana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a blood donation at your local blood center in honour of Brent.
