Eric Wee Tark Tan

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Tan on January 5, 2025. Left to cherish his memory are his two loving sons Alex and Jasper, his mother Marietta, his father PJ, his sister Anne, and his many close friends.

Eric established the Tan Violin Shop in May 2020 succeeding the original P J Tan Violin Shop opened in Edmonton in 1993 on 34th Avenue. Eric spent his youth around stringed instruments and began to be apprenticed by his father in his early teens. Eric’s own personal musical history includes 10 years with the UK within the Worcester Community Philharmonic as a violinist. Eric ran his violin business part of the PJTan violin franchise for 12 years in the Worcester area, the home of composer Edward Elgar. It then seemed timely to join his father, now retired, in the running of the Edmonton shop and pursue his long held passion for violin repair and restoration as a Canadian resident where he has served the Edmonton community for over 10 years.

Such a tremendous loss to the musical community in Edmonton. I will always remember Eric as the warm, funny, quick-witted and generous craftsman that he was. He will be greatly missed.

With my deepest condolences to you and your family.

My deepest condolences to Eric’s family, friends and colleagues. I only recently met Eric at the shop, and enjoyed our conversation. I am very sorry to hear that he is gone so soon.

I am so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed Eric. He was so helpful with my cellos and bows. He was so knowledgeable but also so friendly. What an untimely passing.
