Esther Arlene Horney

Esther Arlene Horney, age 95, died March 1, 2025, at the Saint Joseph’s Hospice in Edmonton.
She was born April 4, 1929, in Freewater, Oregon, to Jacob and Lydia Ruff.
Esther moved to Chilliwack, B.C., where she found employment in the hop fields, and eventually married her husband Lloyd Horney there in 1949. The couple then moved to Valleyview, Alberta where they resided for 30 years, and then to Grande Prairie, Alberta.
She enjoyed playing BINGO, listening to country music, playing cards, and watching curling and the Blue Jays.
Esther is survived by her daughters, Linda (Dana), Terri (Stan), son Tom (Verna), and several grand and great and great great grand children as well as her niece Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, brother, Don, sister Ruby and nephew, Wes.
Over the years Esther has received an incredible amount of support so that she could live and thrive in the various communities that she resided. It truly does take an entire team, and the family would like to take this opportunity to thank individuals as well as the numerous teams that have supported Esther along the way. A huge thank you to Joanne Stewart NP who provided excellent medical care while she resided in Grande Prairie. Further thanks to the entire team at Heritage Lodge (Grande Prairie) where she resided for 16 years. Our sincerest gratitude to the team at Seniors Outreach who helped her for many years by completing her taxes. In addition to this, we extend our gratitude to the entire team at Whitecourt Manor (Whitecourt) as well as the team at Lifestyle Options on Whitemud (Edmonton). Lastly, we would like to thank the Palliative Care team at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Their care, compassion and expertise in her final days will never be forgotten.
At Esther’s request, there will be no funeral service.
