Lester Ginter, age 72 of Sherwood Park, Alberta passed away peacefully at Capital Care Norwood Hospice on December 2, 2024. Les was born in Altona, Manitoba and grew up in Winnipeg where he met his wife Ruth and married her in 1979.They welcomed their first son Daniel in 1980. In 1982, Les moved his wife Ruth and 2 year old Daniel to Edmonton, Alberta to pursue new work opportunities. In late 1983, Les and Ruth welcomed their second son Michael. It was at that time the family purchased their acreage and began building the family home where they would raise their two boys and enjoy country living for 32 years.
Les had a successful career as Plant Supervisor at Lafarge Precast Construction for over 30 years and was well respected by his peers. As a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter, Les’s true passion was woodworking. This was his art and creative outlet which included building the family home on their acreage southeast of Sherwood Park as well as many beautiful pieces of fine furniture or anything else that he could imagine. He taught his sons how to build and create things for themselves and he was a patient teacher of his multitude of skills.
Above all, Les was a dedicated and loving husband, father, Opa and friend. He was a man of faith, honesty and integrity who never wavered from his values. He will be remembered by anyone who knew him for his kind and generous nature.
Les is survived by his wife of 45 years Ruth, his sons Daniel (Sarah) Ginter, Michael (Laura) Ginter, his four grandsons Harlan, Liam, Ash and Samuel as well as three brothers: Allen (Brenda) Ginter, Kevin (Tori) Ginter and David Ginter.
Les was predeceased by his parents Henry Ginter and Mary (Braun) Ginter, brother Ronald Ginter and sister Lianne Ginter.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and family members who supported them with prayers, encouragement, meals and the many kindnesses throughout their journey. Special thanks to the caring and compassionate doctors and nurses at Capital Care Norwood in Edmonton for their wonderful care.
In keeping with Les’s wishes, there will be no public service.
Les was the kindest, most thoughtful and generous person. Whenever there was a need, he was always the first one to offer help. We were so blessed to have him in our extended family.
May his memory be a blessing.
I have known Les since he came to Edmonton in 1982. I soon realized that Les was a man who would soon become a faithful and loyal employee and a very good friend.
