KLAASSEN, Madeleine Marie Gabrielle

“Lynne” (Madeleine Marie Gabrielle) Klaassen was born May 21, 1945 and passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024 at Grey Nuns Hospital, Edmonton AB. Born in Montreal, the daughter of a Serviceman, lived in Halifax, Winnipeg, and Brandon, before settling as an adult in Sherwood Park, AB where she lived for the majority of forty years.

Lynne was predeceased by her parents, Russell Edwardson and Madeleine Whalley; and brother Bobby Edwardson. She is survived by her loving partner Deane Malloy; her daughters Colleen Klaassen, Karen (Todd) Hadley, Diana Klaassen; grandchildren, Aaron, Jamie, Brandon, Samuel, Max, Zac; and great-grandchildren Tori and Hunter. Lynne is also survived by her siblings Diane (Philip) Craig, Barbara (Steve) Paras, June (Vern) Klaassen, Louise (Ken) Jones, and James (Linda) Edwardson, as well as many special nieces and nephews.

While raising three small children, Lynne put herself through school and had a short career with the Provincial Government. She went on to open her beloved “Village Pizza” restaurant, where anyone who visited were treated as family. Lynne was a fervent sports buff, and enjoyed cheering on her favorites in curling, figure skating, and hockey – and was a long-time supporter of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (Every Kid Deserves a Shot initiative).

I didn’t realize that was her full name. To me she was auntie Lynne.I spent very little time with her but the moments I did stuck with me.She had a warm embrace that would melt you and smile that made you feel safe. I’ll always feel like a small child when I think of her. She well be truly missed and carried forward in all our hearts.
