It is with deep sadness we announce that Lloyd William Dunkerley passed away on June 23, 2026, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of seventy, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in the same city on September 19, 1955, Lloyd’s life was defined by his love and devotion to Brenda. From the moment they met when he was twenty-three, he knew she was the woman he would marry, and he remained deeply in love with her for the rest of his life. He was the kind of man who could be counted on, whether for practical help, to have an honest conversation, or simply give a reassuring smile. He had a quiet generosity that never asked for recognition.
As a young man, he trained in masonry, a trade that reflected his practical nature and his appreciation for work done well. Lloyd later spent over 30 years working at Shaw Cable, where he built lasting connections and was respected for his solid work ethic and dependable manner. Whether at work or at home, he approached everything he did with commitment, skill, and a willingness to help others.
Lloyd found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved baseball, golf, and curling, appreciating the strategy and rhythm each offered. He enjoyed travelling to sunny destinations and visiting friends in Ontario. A good cook, he was also known for tidying up after meals at family gatherings, always ready to help without being asked.
He remained closely connected to the people he loved throughout his life. Time with friends was especially important to him, and he treasured the laughter, conversation, and camaraderie they shared.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 45 years, Brenda; sisters, Sharon Lach and Darlene (Ron) Henrich; brothers, Robert Dunkerley and Kelly Bishop; brother-in-law, Rodger Blythe; uncle Ervin (Patti) Reeves who was also a mentor and life-long best friend; sisters-in-law, Wendy Starchuk, Shirley (Dale) Malin, and Bonnie Boadway; and brother-in-law Murray (Michelle) Boadway. Lloyd leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, who were often kept in line by his no-nonsense approach—something many came to appreciate once they had children of their own. He also leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews who will remember his good humour, steady presence, and the friendly banter they shared at family gatherings. He will also be fondly remembered by dear friends, especially Greg Kueneman and Tish Hubbard, who were by his side during his final days, and by all those whose lives were touched by his thoughtful nature. His beloved dog, Quincy, a cherished part of his life, brought him comfort and companionship.
He was predeceased by mother, Geraldine Bishop; father, Bill Dunkerley; mother in-law, Effie (Lil) Dunkerley; sisters, Sandra Bossert and Brenda Blythe; brother, Don Henry Bishop; sister-in-law, Suzanna Tsui; mother-in-law, Verna Boadway; father-in-law, James Boadway; and brothers-in-law, Bryan Boadway and Dennis Starchuk.
Although those who loved him wished for more time, Lloyd’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, dependable nature, and, above all, the enduring love he shared with Brenda throughout their 45 years of marriage. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who lifted Lloyd’s spirits through visits, love, and support during his final months. We are especially grateful to the staff of the Grey Nuns Hospital (Unit 43), Palliative Home Care (Pod F), and the Roozen Family Hospice Centre for the compassionate care they provided and for ensuring Lloyd remained comfortable throughout his illness.
At Lloyd’s request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Pilgrim’s Hospice Society.

Beautifully written. A great tribute to a wonderful man. Cherish each and every memory you and Lloyd created Brenda over your 45 years together. I truly believe the loved ones we’ve lost come back to visit us in some form, whether it be a butterfly, a bird or something special you two shared. Be open to any signs.
We only got to know Lloyd over the past few years when he was visiting at Lake Rosalind – but we’ll remember his whit, his grin and his quiet nature. Brenda, we are sorry you must find your way without this guy you obviously adored. Our condolences to all who knew and loved Lloyd. Rest easy, Lloyd.
