With sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara Elizabeth Hanwell (nee Farmer) at the age of 91. Barbara passed away peacefully in Edmonton at MacTaggart Place by Optima Living in Memory Care.
Barbara was born in 1934, and grew up in Drumheller Alberta. Attending the University of Alberta, she graduated as a teacher. She married Bruce Hanwell in 1959, and raised a family of three children: Tannis, Kent and Margo. When Bruce retired after a long successful career in Alberta’s oil industry, they moved to Victoria, British Columbia, and enjoyed spending numerous years travelling and enjoying the beach life in Maui.
Barbara Hanwell is survived by her three children, Tannis (Montalbetti), Kent (Hanwell) and Margo (Lacoursiere); eight grandchildren, Kyle, Rhian and Malory (Tate), Jacques, Anique, Luc and Gabrielle (Lacoursiere) and Dylan (Hanwell); two great-grandchildren Rory and Violet; as well as extended family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff in Memory Care at MacTaggart Place by Optima Living in Edmonton.
Barbara’s final resting place will be at the Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria, B.C.
