Barry Kimball

Jan 15, 1952- Aug 8, 2025

Barry Murray James Kimball (aka Bear-Man, Papa Bear) peacefully passed away August 8, 2025 after living a remarkable life and showing his determination, humour, and courage in recent years. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 29 years Janis Kimball, daughters Jennifer Johnson (Neil), Heather Harpell (Dwayne), grandchildren Audrey, Eric, Mackenzie, Connor; twin sisters Pam Kimball (Brent) and Patti Kimball (Ric), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barry was pre-deceased by his parents Vince and Verna Kimball , twin brothers Bill (2014) and more recently Bob (Ruby Bernardelli) who sadly passed away August 3rd. Barry passing 5 days after his brother Bob leaves a huge hole in our hearts and they will all be forever remembered and forever loved.

Barry was born and raised in Radville SK, and grew up the middle child, sandwiched between his twin brothers and twin sisters. His love of cooking started early, he spoke fondly of his memories spending time in the kitchen with his mom Verna. As a teen, he moved to Abbotsford BC with his family where he completed High School. Barry made many very good friends, and dearly cherished them throughout his life.

The majority of Barry’s career was spent in finance. His early days took him to the Yukon, BC, and Alberta. Once semi-retired, he spent eight years working part time at Home Depot, where he continued to enjoy meeting new people. Barry loved many things, including golfing, cooking, NFL football, cheering on the Roughriders and many trips to Palm Springs, where he made new friends including Karen and Shaun Tutt from South Hampton England.

Those who love Barry know that family and friendships were very important to him. He was an excellent story teller and very skilled at telling jokes and singing Mack the Knife. Barry was the best ‘new dad’ that Jennifer and Heather could have asked for.

In more recent years, Barry has been lovingly cared for by his wife Jan. He will be missed by many, as he was one of a kind. Barry’s family is very thankful for the excellent care he has received over the last number of years: from his family physician Dr. Talwar, cardiologist, pulmonologists, Home Care (including the Palliative Care team) and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Sturgeon Hospital. The care received was excellent and Barry was so thankful. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the University Hospital Foundation (Mazankowksi Heart Institute) or the Canadian Lung Association.

  1. When I think of Barry, I think of a man who lit up when you saw him – always greeted you with a warm smile, and a great laugh. He went out of his way to be nice and to connect. Simple but rare qualities. You will be missed, Barry. Condolences to Jan and all that loved him.

  2. My cousin Barry was one of a kind. He was memorable and entertaining. As his eulogy attests, he could sing — ‘Mack the Knife’ will never be sung that well again. God bless you Bear and we’ll see you on the other side.
