It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ellen (Merle) Bennett, who passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the age of 89, in Edmonton, AB.

Merle, originally from Vancouver, BC, will be fondly remembered for her laughter, love of life and caring soul for others; whether that be family, friends or former students. Merle taught in the Vancouver school system for 40 years before retiring in 1995. She was dedicated to whatever struck her fancy, whether it was teaching, crafting, or her love for travel, she would put her whole heart and soul into making it a success.

Merle, will be lovingly missed by her two children Laurel and Richard. She will also be forever remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nicolas (Justine), Hudson and Renn; Mikael (Becca), Marina and Nyla; her sister Billie (Bill-predeceased)and nephew and niece; and many friends she made along her way.

Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 16, at 1:00pm at Shepherd’s Care Kensington Village 12603 – 135 Ave. NW, Edmonton, AB.
