It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald Lawrence Alyward announce his passing on December 3, 2025, at 80 years old, in Rivercrest Care Center, Ft. Saskatchewan, AB. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Donelda, his three adoring Children, Brad (Miranda), Greg (Jennifer), and Kimberly (Michael), as well his precious six grandchildren, Jordan, Karissa, Madison (Father, James Clark), Kailey, McKenzie and Rhegan, his brothers and sisters, as well as countless nieces and nephews. Gerald was pre-decreased by his parents, Bernard and Josephine Alyward, as well as his sister Mary-Kate and his in-laws, Perry and Florence Revoy.
Gerald was born on September 26, 1945, the second child and first son of Bernard and Josephine Alyward, in Brent’s Cove, NFLD. Gerald was part of a large Newfie family, whom he deeply loved and was deeply loved by. With 8 brothers, Ted (Alberta), Loy (Carmel), Ed (Sheila), Melvin (Elena), Greg (Moi), Denis (Marilyn), Rick (Theresa), Reg (Shirley), and 4 sisters, Nora (Harold), Anne, Beth, and Cavell, there was no shortage of laughter.
Gerald (Gerry) worked most of his life for Imperial Oil Distribution Center in Calgary and Edmonton, where he made many friends, retiring in 2005 to Lawrence Lake, AB. Gerry spent the remainder of his life enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, and quadding with his dog, Casey but his favorite times were sitting with family and friends for tea.
A celebration of Life will be held at Grosmont Hall, 241071 Township Rd 672, Athabasca County, No. 12, AB on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Kids with Cancer Foundation, in Gerry’s name.
