Glenn Berntson

Glenn was truly one of a kind. He was charming, charismatic, quick-witted, big-hearted and always kept his unique sense of humour on full display.

He was the sixth child in a family of ten, born and raised in a small town in southeast Saskatchewan. He always said that he could only attend school when his brother was sick – and his brother was pretty healthy.

Glenn moved to Alberta as a young man. He worked with and for his oldest brother Dave on the farm. He married a hometown girl, Sharon Hill, and had two daughters, Sherida and Gayle. The family eventually moved to northern Alberta as Glenn found a job within oil and gas drilling – first working in Edmonton and later moving to Grande Prairie to become “the best paid newspaper delivery boy in the oil patch”.

In 1991 we returned to Edmonton. Glenn continued to work in field sales, criss-crossing the province making a million miles chasing rigs.

After 40 years of working, Glenn chose to retire. His favourite pastimes were cutting grass and blowing snow for the neighbourhood. Retirement also brought many memorable trips and good times with friends and family.

In his final years, Glenn was struck down by Alzheimer’s disease. He may have been losing his words and thoughts but that twinkle in his eye remained until the end..

Glenn is survived by his loving wife Sharon and daughter Gayle. He will also be missed by his sisters Ellen, Fran, Marj and Merle (Jim) and brother Dennis (Maureen), as well as in-laws Betty, Judy, Jack (Tina) and Murray (Pat) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Art and Jennie, brothers Dave, Bud, Eric and Butch and brothers-in-law Downey, Dennis and George. He was also predeceased by Sharon’s parents Roy and Verna, as well as her siblings Lornetta and Jim, and in-laws Keith, Bob and Patricia.

A graveside service for family will be held at a later date.
