With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gord Cummings on June 19, 2025, at the age of 44, in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Born in Wainwright, Alta. and raised in Bassano, Alta., Gord later made his home in the Calgary and Edmonton areas, where he built a life grounded in compassion, creativity, and an unwavering care for others.
Gord will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife, Lindsay Cummings, and their children, Auriel and Jonathan. He is also mourned by his parents, Marvin and Debra Cummings; his siblings, Melissa Cummings (Ben Blue, Deceased) and Jeff Cummings (Alana Dahlan); and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends—so many of whom Gord considered chosen family.
A man of intelligence and imagination, Gord had a kind and generous heart. He was a passionate advocate for social justice, always standing up for the underdog and believing in the inherent goodness of people. He had a deep appreciation for all things arts, loved canoeing and camping and had a thirst for knowledge and constant learning. His integrity, empathy, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

To honour Gord’s memory, please extend kindness to someone in need or support a cause close to your heart—just as he would have done.

There are also several more direct ways if you wish to support a cause in his memory or the family.

Gord was my teacher while I was taking my addictions course. He was truly a gem. He always had a smile and you could tell by the way he taught that he loved his job. He pushed but in a good way. He always knew what to say or do to help me continue on with my academic journey. I still use things in my daily life that I learned from him and will continue to use. I’d like to think he would be proud that I went on to get my Bachelors in Psychology. It all starred in that addictions course. Thank you Gord.

To his wife, sons, family and friends: condolences to all of and know you are not alone and have a mountain of people thinking of you at this difficult time.

    Rest Easy Gord.

  2. I’m really really sorry to hear about Gords passing :(. I absolutely loved any time I would visit and his passing has come as a massive shock to me. His passion in his many creative pursuits always left an impression on me, and he always treated me with such kindness and seemed to help make my day a little bit better each time i was over. I’m just heartbroken to hear he is no longer with us. I still keep a copy of his comics in my car :(. Many condolences to Auriel, Lindsay, Jonathan, and everyone else who knew Gord through their life. I hope you are all doing alright despite this, and have each other to lean on. There is so much more I wish to say here, but don’t think words could really do it all justice. We all lost an amazing person, father, and friend.

We are truly saddened for the loss of such a great man, he will be fondly remembered by so many. I remember his cute , funny personality as a kid mostly as our families were close and our kids grew up together until their early teens .
We are sending our sincere thoughts and prayers to you all, may you gather strength and courage from each other in your time of healing. Hugs and love

Dear family and friends of Gord,
I was one of Gord’s students and was so privileged to have him as my teacher, mentor, and friend. Gord taught me not just academically but also how to navigate through a world that isn’t always fair or kind . Gord was the first teacher I’ve ever had that saw my potential and encouraged me through my career in social work. He showed up in more ways than one for me. His compassion, general nature, sense of humour, and laugh got me through my own tough times. Gord gave me the gift of seeing myself, believing in myself, and being the person/social worker I am today. My heart is absolutely in shock and his loss will be felt heavily . I had the pleasure of meeting his son and he talked so highly of his family. My condolences to everyone. May we meet Gord again someday . Until then, rest easy my friend.

  8. My deepest condolences to the Cummings family. I have so many found memories of hanging out with Gord and Jeff back in Bassano. Gord was a very unique and creative person which is why I was drawn to him. We shared many similar interests which made us good friends for a number of years. I regret not reconnecting with him.
    Rest in Peace Gord
