It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hal Smith, who left us peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 68, in Edmonton, Alberta.
Born on May 30, 1957, in Nova Scotia, Hal lived a life marked by laughter, sarcasm, and a deep love for his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to Cori, a proud father to Zach, and a loving grandfather to Emily and Mackenzie, who brought him endless joy.
Hal had a passion for vintage cars. He could often be found under the hood of a classic vehicle, restoring it with care and pride. He also cherished time spent outdoors, especially camping/quadding trips shared with friends and family. His sharp sense of humour, and genuine warmth made him a friend to many and a steady, guiding presence to those who knew him best.
Hal’s legacy lives on in the stories, memories, and love he leaves behind.
He is predeceased by his parents, Roy and Peggy, sister Lin, and brothers Rick and Mark.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to enjoy the open road or spend time around a campfire with loved ones -just the way Hal would have wanted.
He will be deeply missed.
Hal was the back alley neighbor that was washing his quad shortly after I moved to Dovercourt 20 some years ago. I had to talk to that guy.
We talked for quite a long time and he said I should come camping and quadding with him.
That camping and quadding through Hals invite is responsible for the vast majority of my friends today. I camped once at the Bighorn dam and there was about 25 people there that I met through Hal.
I was under my truck a couple of years ago and an old car pulled up and stopped. That was Hal. I had fiat that had motor issues. He said let me know and I will come help ya. He did.
Hal always had a great spirit. He Loved to laugh and Cajole with people.
Hal I am sure is making a bunch of new friends and laughing with some old friends.
Till we meet again my friend.
Cori and Zach, my sincere condolences go out to you and his whole family. I will remember Hal as a good humoured, warm man who always had a story to share around the fire after a solid day out on the trail. May he rest in peace.

Hal loved to tease people with a twinkle in his eye and a smirk on his face! I remember Hal and another cousin whipping me around the dance floor during the Butterfly at a cousin’s wedding. That was over 40 years ago and I still love that memory!!
At work, Hal always shared a ready smile, a hearty hello, and welcomed each day. He was kind. He was funny. He was a very good man indeed. He will be missed but he will be fondly remembered. Deepest condolences to you and yours.
