It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Ian Joseph McEachern on November 9th, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 72.
Ian fought a long battle with health issues these past few years and our only solace is that he is now at peace.
Ian was born in Ottawa, Ontario and grew up in Winchester Springs, Ontario. As an adult he lived in and had many friends in, Atikokan, ON, White Rock, B.C. and Edmonton, AB.
Ian will be lovingly remembered by his sister Lynn and brothers Greg and David (Bub) along with his sisters-in-law Shannon, Gloria, Josette and Danielle. Ian was close to his nieces and nephews and will be deeply missed by Tanya and husband Billy, Andrew (Gemma), Jess (Lauren), Sherry (Denis) and Dawn (Doug) and by his grand-nephews and nieces: Kenzie, Katee, Jacob, Colin, Annie and Teddy.
Ian was predeceased by his father Bill, mother Margaret, brothers Will, Don and Toby and by his beloved nephew, David.
Ian was happiest in a canoe but really, just doing anything outdoors whether on a lake, in the mountains or in a forest. He enjoyed camping and fishing and was also an avid reader. A happy Sunday for Ian would start with a cup of tea and good book and in the best of worlds, end with sitting around a campfire with family and friends, storytelling, laughing and drinking a cold beer.
Ian will be remembered by all for his great sense of humour and the fun that was guaranteed whenever he was around.
Sister Lynn remembers: Ian discovered the strength of comedy at the age of four when, egged on by another boy he entertained a group of his mother’s friends with some trickster antics. Their laughter was all the encouragement he needed to set him on a life-long path of making people laugh.
Neice Tanya recalls: It was a full day of so much laughter and goofiness with Uncle Ian.
Niece Sherry laughs: His story telling was epic and those stories had you on the edge of your seat hanging on every word, head tilted back and you holding your belly.
Nephew Jess said: With Uncle Ian, boy did we always have a good time! And he always showed us it was okay to get in a wee bit of trouble now and then. He was a lover, a giver and made the world a better place with his beautiful laugh.
Ian leaves his family and friends with so many memories full of laughter and good times. Rest in peace dear man, until we meet again.
