It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Diane Johner (nee Cowan) announce her passing on August 17, 2026 at the age of 84 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Diane will be remembered by her family, son Brent (Grace), daughter Kim (Colin), daughter Janice (Doug), grandson Shaun (Kelly), granddaughter Ashley (Logan), granddaughter Genevieve, granddaughter Reatha, great-granddaughters Victoria, Jocelyn and Iyla, godson, nephew and caregiver Aaron, brother Don (Lyla), sister Theresa, sister Debbie (Gerald), and numerous family and friends. Diane was pre-deceased by her parents Peter and Lena Cowan, sister Gloria, brother Rod, sister Patricia, and nephews Warren and Jason.
Diane’s nursing career began in the Labour & Delivery/Surgical unit at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Estevan Saskatchewan where she delivered numerous babies. Her retirement from the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (Geriatrics) in Edmonton, Alberta shows the wide scope of the career that she loved so much.
Once retired, Diane enjoyed travel to Hawaii, Australia, England and Scotland, attending live theatre, Sudoku puzzles, reading, listening to music, visiting with family and, most of all, walking the footpaths in the Edmonton River Valley.
Diane specifically requested there be no prayer service or funeral. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society Of Alberta.
Diane’s ashes will be interned at the Souris Valley Memorial Gardens in Estevan, Saskatchewan in her family plot.
