It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Totten, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
John passed away on July 25th/26 at the age of 72. Born June.27th, 1954 in Glasgow, Scotland, John spent his early childhood there before beginning a new chapter in life. At the age of 12, he emigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on August 15th, 1966 with his parents Hugh and Christine, and his sister Elizabeth (14). Together as a family, the Totten family began a new life in Canada, carrying with them their strength, love, and hope for the future.
John was a man who meant so much to so many. He was deeply loved and will be remembered for the person he was, the lives he touched, and the countless moments shared with those closest to him. His greatest legacy will not be measured in possessions or accomplishments, but in the love he gave his family and the memories he leaves behind, leaving a lifetime of moments that will be cherished forever by those who knew him. His absence has created a space that can never be filled, but his presence will be felt always in the hearts of those who loved him.
To his family, John was so much more than a father. He was someone to turn to, someone whose presence brought comfort, and someone whose place in their lives can never be replaced. The love between a father and his children is something that carries on long after goodbye, and John’s family will carry that love with them always.
John was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Christine Totten. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Terry Totten, his children Dawn Totten and Kirsty Totten (Darren Gallop), and his granddaughter Kenzxi Gallop. His sister Elizabeth and Joseph Patricio, and his nephews Joseph Jr. (Carly), who have three children Rylee, Colby, and Reid, as well as nephew Raymond, and many extended family members and friends who had the privilege of knowing him.
Though our hearts are broken by his sudden passing, we find comfort in knowing that a part of John will live on in everyone who loved him—in the stories we tell, the memories we share, and the lessons and love he left behind.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on August 29th/26, where family and friends will come together to remember, honour, and celebrate the life of a very special man.
