Lawrence Eugene Kallal passed away peacefully in Sherwood Park, Alberta, on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 92, following a short battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Born on September 18, 1933, in Tofield, he was the youngest of nine children of Charles and Frances Kallal. From an early age, Lawrence was shaped by the values that would define his life: faith, family, humility, hard work, kindness, and a generous spirit.
A widely respected Hereford cattleman, showman and rancher, Lawrence devoted his life to the land. His stewardship reflected a deep respect for creation and a lifelong belief in leaving things better than he found them.
Beyond his work on the family farm, Lawrence’s life was rooted in his Catholic faith. He embodied quiet goodness, humbleness and gentleness in all that he did, yet carried a quick wit that could spark a smile in an instant. His memory was legendary – he could recall stories, faces and details with astonishing clarity, often leaving those around him in awe. Lawrence also cherished life’s simplest joys, especially ice cream, and his family smiles knowing he can now enjoy as many scoops as he wishes. The many years shared with him were an immeasurable blessing, and there is deep gratitude that his suffering was brief.
Lawrence was predeceased by his children, John Lawrence and Margaret Rose, as well as many beloved family members and friends. His family takes comfort in knowing the joyous reunion that awaited him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Theresa; his four daughters: Carol Kallio, Debra (Craig) Coward, Maureen (Jean-Pierre) Grenier, and Anne-Marie Kallal (Greg Waskul); grandchildren, Mack, Becca, Rachel (Ryan), Troy, Amélie; and great-grandson Luca.
At Lawrence’s request, a small, private family Mass will be held. His legacy lives on in the land he tended, the family he adored, and the countless lives he touched. Those wishing to honour his memory may do so by donating to the Marian Centre in Edmonton or Catholic Social Services – causes close to his heart and reflective of his lifelong commitment to generosity and acts of service.

Dear Terry and Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of Lawrence. We can be grateful for the good, long life that he lived and enjoyed with his family. My sympathies to you, Terry, and the girls.
Theresa Kallal
Dear Theresa, Debbie, Carol, Maureen and Anne-Marie,
Please accept our condolences and our prayers on the passing of Lawrence. I never met Lawrence but having met three of the daughters (Anne-Marie, Debra and Maureen) I felt as though we met him. He gave you great gifts of faith, and of a generosity of spirit, and a deep love. May his memory live on in each of you. We ask Our Lady to console your hearts.
Dina, for all at the Marian Centre
