It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Lillian Joan Mellon (Zurawell) our mom, Grama and GG. She left peacefully in hospice on December 3rd, 2025 at 91 yrs.  Joan was born near Plain Lake, AB on March 5, 1934.  She was dedicated to her work in real estate and at the Alberta Provincial Gov’t, but her greatest passion and service was to her grandkids and great grands.  She spent all the years of her retirement interwoven in their lives and was their biggest fan at every event.

Joan is survived by her children Betty, Carolynn, Rick (Loretta) and Pam (Brad); her grandchildren Garrett (Falon), Courtney (John), Caitlyn (Dan), Carly, Tayler (Derek), Jackson, Lauren (Caleb); her great grandchildren Lily, Luca, Marlow, Harrison, William, Duke, Audrina, Levi, James & Elliott; her brothers Ed and Ron Zurawell; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Jack Mellon, son David James, her mother Isabel Zurawell (Spink), father John Zurawell and her sisters Marion, June Orr and Pat Eldridge.

Joan loved gardening, creating artwork, reading, babysitting and dog sitting.  Joan also loved to cook and made the best cabbage rolls ever.

Our family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Roozen Family Hospice Centre for their friendship, care and compassion.

Joan’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside her mother and sister at a later date this spring with a memorial at New Kiew Holy Ascension Ukrainian Church Cemetery, followed by a family picnic in the country.
