Cameron Alexander McDonald passed away peacefully at the age of 73 in Edmonton, Alberta on January 22, 2026.

Cameron will be remembered by his wife, Gloria; his daughter Elaine (Jason, and grandchildren Amelia and Andrew) Chance; his son Darren (Charity) McDonald; his daughter Angela (Kevin) Oliver; and his son Shawn McDonald. Cameron was part of a large family including his parents John and Nell McDonald (deceased); siblings Bruce; Bonnie (Jim); Norman (deceased) (Margaret); Rod (Lorraine); Lorna (deceased) (Urban); Murray (Helen); his very close twin brother Colin (Judi, deceased); and many nieces and nephews.

As a teacher, his love of educating and thirst for knowledge drove him to pursue several degrees and numerous life achievements, including two terms as a University of Alberta Senator. He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus and held the position of Grand Knight for several years.

Cameron had a love of reading, gardening, and a deep appreciation for science fiction. A devoted fan of Star Trek, he found joy in exploring new worlds and ideas through books and stories, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta and NWT Alzheimer Society at alzheimer.ca/ab/en

  8. Uncle Cam was a great Godfather, and was always there for the big faith moments in my life. Uncle Cam also made Christmas more special for me every year. One of my fondest memories of Uncle Cam was him boxing with me when I was about 8. He was on his knees with one hand behind his back, and he had the biggest smile.

  9. Dear Gloria,
Please accept my deepest sympathy. Despite being a twin, Cam was “one of a kind.” We go back to St. Gabriel Junior High in 1964. I was fortunate to be called Cam’s friend through junior high, high school, university, and after. Playing junior football, arguing about sports, or playing table football during spares in Grade 12 were always better when Cameron was part of the action. Riding in the back seat of that Toyota Corolla to university during year 1 and 2 provided some of the greatest laughs and moments of terror. – regardless of whether it was Colin or Cam driving.
Cameron had a quiet, barely audible “ heh, heh, heh” of a chuckle that I will always remember . God bless you, Cam. You won’t be forgotten.
