MICHAEL EARL GARLOUGH
1936 – 2026
Michael Earl Garlough, born December 17, 1936 in Edmonton, AB peacefully passed away September 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of joy and love. Mike was a devoted husband to Jan Bagot and a cherished father to Sandy Ceylan. He took immense pride in his family, especially as grandfather to Laura and Aylin Ceylan.
Mike enjoyed a successful career in the finance industry starting with esteemed institutions such as Imperial Bank of Commerce just prior to the 1961 historic merger with Canadian Bank of Commerce to form CIBC. From banking to lease financing with First City Capital he later started his own financing business.
However, it was on the golf course where he truly thrived. He was fortunate to shoot his age a few times, the latest was in 2013 scoring a 76 a few months before his 77th birthday. He was lucky (or skilled enough) to hit two hole-in-ones. Mike was happiest when he could play over 100 games in a season. He was incredibly patient teaching his wife and they shared a passion for the game.
In addition to golf, he enjoyed the casual gathering with friends to shoot a game of pool or sit down at the poker table. Mike was an avid reader who loved immersing himself in novels filled with mysteries and crime intrigue. In the family he was known for his exceptional skills in building jigsaw puzzles. He relished spending sun-filled days surrounded by family and friends, nurturing a joy for life and encouraging those around him to live fully.
Michael’s spirit will always be felt on the golf course and will forever remain with his family and friends, as they remember him for his warm heart, keen intellect, and the laughter he brought into their lives. He leaves behind a world enriched by his presence, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Michael was predeceased in death by: Earl and Bessie Garlough and Jerri Lynn Garlough.

My sincere condolences Jan.
