Michael Thomas Brings

December 27, 1956 – September 5, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Thomas Brings, aged 69, of Edmonton, Alberta on September 5th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was born on December 27th, 1956 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Gunther Brings and Rosa (nee; Rauffer) Brings. He was the second of four children, having two sisters, Barbra, and Claudia, and one brother, Alexander. He was survived by his wife Patricia Dawn and his sons; Alexander and Alan.

Michael graduated from Pierrefonds Community High School with the Class of 1974, and, following graduation, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he proudly served in the 2nd Military Police Regiment at the CFB Petawawa.

After his service with the CFB, he found a love of truck driving and pursued this love for many years before moving on to enjoying a variety of career moves. He returned to his beloved career of truck driving in his later years where he got to drive all across North America – leaving behind many fond memories of amazing adventures.

Throughout his life and career changes, Michael maintained a love of photography, reading, history, collecting watches, and music – specifically opera and classical.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 19th, 2026 at 2:00pm, in the Smilie’s Village Restaurant & Bar located at 981 Fir Street, Sherwood Park, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA or to your personal favourite animal rescue.
