It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Patrick John Veitch peacefully at his home July 24, 2026.
Patrick (Pat) was born April 7, 1970, in Edmonton, Alberta to Sylvia (Sewell) Mortwedt and Brent Veitch.
Pat was a kind, loyal, and loving soul with a great sense of humour. His children were his greatest love. His early years were in the Edmonton neighbourhood of Bonnie Doon attending Rutherford Elementary School where he developed lifelong friendships. During 1980 the family (Renee, Pat, Sylvia, and Jim) moved to Beaumont Alberta where Pat continued his education and gained more long-term relationships. During school breaks, Pat joined his family (Brent, Carol, Jesse, and Stephen) in Victoria. In 1998 Pat moved to Parksville on Vancouver Island where he and his friend from Beaumont, Francis Lecordier, worked in Francis’s Father-In-Law’s business. Pat met and fell in love with Lydia Martin during this time starting a family with the birth of their son, Cory Martin, in 1999 followed by their daughter, Tansy Veitch in 2002. Pat moved back to Edmonton in 2014 reuniting with family and friends including Cory and Bill Kot, Cherilyn Jensen, and David Hughes. He lived with Cherlyn and her son, Diego and daughter, Rhiannon Pastor in Calgary from 2016 returning to Edmonton 2021.
Graduating from the Culinary Arts Program at Malaspina College, Nanaimo BC, Pat gained experience working with high-end fine dining, pub, and casual dining restaurants and establishments specializing in sushi, sea food, and steaks. His other work included working on pipelines, metal work, reclamation, renovation, insulation along with varied commercial and residential projects throughout central and northern Alberta. Pat also assisted with many projects over the years at the Mortwedt home.
Pat loved nature, hikes, Dungeons and Dragons, rock and mineral hunting, dinosaurs, running, surfing, scary movies, gold panning, listening to music, the company of loved ones, friends, dogs, and cats. Pat greeted each morning with “It’s a Brand-New Day,” had a smile for everyone and a twinkle in his eye. Among his favorite places were Drumheller, the river and creek systems in Edmonton, Long Beach on Vancouver Island and the Kamloops area.
Pat was pre-deceased by his father, Brent Veitch; grandparents John and Esther Sewell, Jim, and Jean Veitch; step-grandparents, Helen and Lloyd Raynard and his aunt Cheryl Veitch.
Pat is survived by: his son, Cory Martin and daughter, Tansy Veitch (Liam Fehr); mother, Sylvia Mortwedt; stepfather, Jim Mortwedt (who Pat called Dad for 50 years) and stepmother, Carol Robson; sisters Renee (Daniel) LeBlanc, Shannon Place (Derek Pretula); brothers, Stephen Veitch and Jesse Veitch (Stephanie Passmore); nieces and nephews Devin Pretula (Nathan Young) and Luke Pretula, Claire LeBlanc (Suz Harasymuk), Marc LeBlanc (Lauren Eusanio), and baby Sebastian Veitch; step-uncles Bob (Bridget) Raynard and Barry (Penny) Raynard and their children Bethany and Matthew Raynard.
A Celebration of Life for Pat is planed for late Spring in 2027 with more information to follow.
Pat, you will forever be in our hearts and the nature around us.

  1. Pat you were the best of us. I miss you so much. I wish we could have hung out 1 more time.. You will be greatly missed as you had such a positive impact on so many. Especially me. Love you Bro.

  2. Francis Lecordier

Pat was one of the best humans I have ever known, in all he endeavoured to do he really did it from his heart and did things in his own way by his own code. A sense of humor like nobody else, in any situation he could turn a mood around. Humble, modest, kind, sharing to fault. Pat is also someone I had also taken for granted that he would “always be there” never, ever did the thought ever cross me, no matter where in the world I was that Pat wouldn’t be there. I can honestly say a piece of me is gone, there is a hole in me that Pat had a place. I look forward to seeing you again my friend, love you like a brother, missing you like a best friend.

  3. Colín Patrick Kot

Pat was a good man and friend. He always had a joke to tell and stayed on the upbeat and positive side of life. He WILL be missed.

  4. Pat,
You will never be able to fathom just how much we will always miss you. You will live on in our hearts and conversations and we will continue to laugh together reminiscing about your crazy comments and the belly laughs you shared with your brothers. Your sincerity and loving nature were unmatched.
    It’s a brand new day!

  5. My love and condolences to those closest to him. He is sorely missed by Diego, Rhiannon and me. I see him in every glisten on the water, every dice, stone, Lord of the Rings reference and so much more. He has had a profound impact on my life and will always be loved and remembered fondly.
