Richard Tudor Jenkins
September 19, 1943 – October 14, 2025
The family of Richard Jenkins announces his death at age 82. Richard was born in Edmonton and spent his whole life there. He is survived by his wife Anita Jenkins; his brother David Jenkins; David’s children: Heather (Wade) Klimchuk, David Jenkins Jr. and Chantelle Jenkins; and great niece and nephew Kyrsten Keeler and Keifer Klimchuk. Anita’s ten siblings and their spouses, children and grandchildren will also miss him.
Richard is predeceased by his parents Maisie and Tudor Jenkins; and his brother Glynn Jenkins. Also best friend Wendell Gillespie. The family wishes to express huge gratitude for the care and support provided at Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre over the past nine months. And for the services of Unit 54 at the Royal Alex during the last month of Richard’s life.
Richard did not want a formal funeral or memorial. But he loved rum and coke, and hoped there would be a wake in his honour, with lots to eat and drink. Richard worked as an accountant and preferred home-body pursuits such as reading newspapers and books, collecting, taking care of his beloved cat(s), doing crosswords, and following the sports, especially the CFL. For several years, Richard served as treasurer of the Edmonton Wildcats junior football team. He was 6’ 3” and big, so he fit right in.
In earlier days, he was an avid skier, and he enjoyed going out to plays, concerts and movies with Anita. He and Anita visited every province in Canada, always with a rental car so Richard could pursue one of his favorite activities – driving. Richard was quick-witted and could come up with a killer joke suitable for every occasion. He was curious about the world. A nephew says, “He offered his honest opinion of a subject, without a need to overly stoke the heat of a conversation.”
What we take to be our strongest tower of delight – only stands at the caprice of the minutest event – the falling of a leaf, the hearing of a voice, or the receipt of one little bit of paper scratched over with a few small characters by a sharpened feather. Herman Melville.

Thank you for sharing these aspects of Richard’s life. My heart is with you.
Love Jeanette
