I was very fortunate to be part of the Hazlehurst family for a number of years when Garth and I went to High School together, and later when I was part of the pit crew when we raced stock cars. Rita was always there to make meals and late night snacks (fresh bread) after we were done working on cars. She would listen with interest about what was done and or what was planned for the next day. We would do a little math on the estimated time to do the next task, at that moment she would ask “Did you multiply by THREE” At the end of the project or task, Rita was closer to the final hours required then what we had originally estimated. Rita, Thanks for all of the great meals, and you continues support of your husband’s and children’s life events. RD Schmidt

We have good memories of both your Mom and Dad at Bridge City Speedway. Our deepest sympathies are with you all.

My late husband, Greg, was Rita’s nephew. He and I would both recall our lovely visits with her. She was warm and welcoming, and very down to earth. Sending condolences to the family. She will be missed.

Auntie Rita was truly an extraordinary lady! Her garden was by far the best ever, she had an endless supply of knowledge and tricks to have a vibrant and high yield garden. She was a wonderful cook… the pail of cookies is forever remembered not to mention her homemade bread. Her stories of the family and her great memory for the details will be so missed. She will be greatly missed but always remembered with much love and respect for a life well lived.
